Gymboree shoppers be aware!!!

For those that shop at the Gymboree in Roosevelt Field Mall, please be aware of the employees. What happened to me today was beyond my belief and I still can't shake it off. I was returning few items at the store and while the lady at the register was checking the receipt and scanned the item and the receipt, told me to swipe my card and enter my PIN, (I use credit/debit bank card) well apparently it didn’t work so she told me to do it again, and without hesitation I sure did. As I was entering the pin again and went to press Enter, I look up and saw her quickly write something down on a paper near her screen. After as she was writing something on the receipt and I was still puzzled by what she wrote on the piece of paper so quickly, so I decided to go with my gut and move the computer screen to the side and notice a writing on a paper, it turns out it was my PIN, I quickly grabbed the paper and so did she and we both ended up ripping the paper in half, but my half had the PIN on it. When I asked for a manager and confronted the cashier about what just happened, she tried to play it of that this number was the transaction number she needed to write down for the return she just did. I was shocked that she tried to sell me such a BS story!!! Let’s just say I made a scene at the store making sure everyone heard me, including my husband who was outside the store with the baby waiting for me. The manager although calm and understanding, didn't seem to be too concerned with what just happened she just told the employee to go to the back. So I will contact the corporate offices tomorrow to make sure that situation gets investigated. The employee kept on saying how she didn’t write those numbers down, and then thats she did, she tried to make me look like I was then one losing my marbles. Sorry for the long story, but I hope everyone will keep their eyes open during what is supposed to be a happy season, and unfortunately people are taken advantage of. If my baby was with me in the store, I can guarantee that I would not pick up on what was happening to me. I have no idea what she was going to do with my PIN but obviously these days not much is needed for fraud.

Re: Gymboree shoppers be aware!!!

I don't shop there but that's crazy.

What about notifying the local precinct as a precautionary measure?

WOW! Good eye!
And I'm sure they have a security camera above the register. I bet they can check it.

Keep us posted on what corporate has to say!

Chat Icon WOW. Thanks for sharing! I'm glad you caused a scene and I would absolutely take this as far as necessary. I bet they had cameras on her that could show her writing the numbers. That's just awful. You probably already have done this, but I would call your credit card to change your pin and possibly CC #. She could be dumb enough to still try to use it.

I did two minutes after I walked out I called and stoped the card. But then my husband and I just walked by again few minutes later and the manager and her were just standing there and "chatting" so not sure if any action is taken in the store, but I will make sure corporate hears about it!!!

Don't call the mall office...call corporate and call the police. The mall office won't be much help.

omg...thats really crazy! can't believe they were chatting. When I was a manager that would warrant an immediate call to the district manager and I'd send the sales person home until further notice to sort things out.

Agreed!

My knee jerk thought to reading that "the manager and employee were standing around chatting" when you went back, is that they are BOTH in on the scam! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Call corporate first thing in the morning. And It's a good thing you wrote down everything on here, so you don't forget any of the facts!

Re: Gymboree shoppers be aware!!!

With that piece of info, it wouldn't surprise me if they were in on it together.

Seriously though, I work in a customer service related field and when clients have made an accusation of theft against an employee, we always advise them to call the police.

It's the same protocol even when they do contact corporate.

they probably had a reader that steals your number attached to their machine. Then when you swipe, they steal your number, put those numbers on a blank card, and use your pin for cash. I would def call corporate!

if you post on fb, do it from a new account. I would fear retaliation from the employees if they have your full name.

Re: Gymboree shoppers be aware!!!

Wow!Good for you!!! I am sure your gut was right!! Keep an eye on your account going forward but I am sure she won't use it. And yes, if your DC was with you, you would never be able to have seen such a thing. I am so glad you caught her, what happens next?

I wonder if you should have called the police?

This is what I was thinking. and I agree, if they were chatting afterwards the manager is definitely in on it as well.

I would call and write corporate. I would also write on their Facebook page and Twitter stream!!

That is absolutely NUTS! Chat Icon

If she was writing a transaction number she would have had no issues with you seeing what she was doing so she was clearly full of shit.

Good for you for being so on your toes! Might not hurt to go to their FB page and write something- that seems like the quickest way to get corporate attention.

I wouldn't waste your time calling the mall office. They really can't get involved but you should call Gymboree corporate or call and get the number for a district or regional manager

This happened to us recently. There were charges from our debit/cc card but DH was still in possession of his card yet the purchases were made in Store not online.

People are messed up!

Good catch and definitely take some action! I cant believe the manager acted that way!
