A way to help the CT families? Thoughts?
Like everyone else, this whole thing has my insides turned upside down.
I would like to try and do something for these people. My first thought was that nothing can take their pain away and while that's true, it then occurred to me that some people might struggle to pay funeral expenses. People typically don't take out life insurance policies on children.
I called the Newtown United Methodist Church to see if they knew of any needy families but I was only able to leave a message.
I would be happy to send someone who was collecting a check. I can't do much right now but if everyone did something small maybe it could add up.
I will continue to look into this either way but I was wondering what everyone thought.
Thanks!

A way to help the CT families? Thoughts?
Many of the area funeral homes are donating their facilities, services, hearses, limos, etc.. my husband's current and former homes both are. Many of the area funeral directors (including my husband) are also volunteering their services and time to help. They still will likely need help with costs for the cemeteries
I am sure that the families who are grieving could use help with just the basics like food and meal prep. I can't imagine that they're going to be thinking of the normal things like grocery shopping etc.
Families and survivors are both going to need a ton of counseling, so contributions to the local mental health agencies I'm sure would be very helpful.

If you want to make a donation, this account was set up by a Sandy Hook resident that is friends with someone I know.
My Sandy Hook Family Fund
Everribbon
We are the parents of the children who survived. We are the classmates, friends, and the little league coaches. Sandy Hook is where we live -- it is our proud community. We ask the world to join us not only in our grief but also in our burning need take some of the burdens off these families in their time of incredible pain. To bear their cross in some small way. We intend to use donations to pay for immediate needs, including funeral services, as well as ongoing living expenses such as food, mortgages payments, daycare, insurances and fuel until they are back on solid ground. Please help us help our own neighbors beyond sharing their tears. All net funds received will go directly to the families who lost children and immediate family members.

I live in Newtown and I know our community is so grateful for all the support. Being a NY transplant I cannot tell you what a wonderful community this is, how people care for and support each other even before this tragedy. They have told us that they are working to set up one donation fund. If I have any other local info I will post it here. Until then, please just continue to pray for the families and the babies :(

Dumb as it may sound both Dallas and San Antonio have started to collect cards for them. Just so they know we are thinking of them. The plan is to have them all sent prior to xmas and then again afterwards to know we haven't forgotten them.
