Dog Toys for TOUGH Chewers? (Pets X-post)

Link.

So I've been a bad mommy! I haven't gotten anything for my pups for Christmas yet! Chat Icon I have a pitbull mix and a collie mix. The collie is easy since he's a normal chewer. He's tough, but he loves to fetch rather than just DESTROY toys. Our pit is tough. She can chew through just about anything in 5 minutes flat. Even kongs and nylabones aren't safe for her. Anything TOO hard and she chews until her gums bleed! Chat Icon I've heard mixed reviews about "orbee balls". Any idea if these are good? Also interested in things like the deer antlers, but I'm looking for a smaller chew toy that we can play fetch with. (at least for 5 minutes until she decides she's done and brings it to her crate to destroy it!) Any recs would be wonderful! I'm also placing an order on Amazon.com (whoo hoo free 2-day shipping with prime!) so bonus points if I can order it from there. Chat Icon TIA!

Dog Toys for TOUGH Chewers? (Pets X-post)

I wish I could help! I had a 13 pound dog that just destroys any and everything even if it specifically says it's made for pit bulls or rotties. Nothing stops him. I've had success with kong toys for a limited amount of time then he manages to get chunks of it off and I have to toss it. Even stuffingless animals he manages to destroy. So I stick with dollar store toys and they last a month or so and then we move on to the new one.

I like the little fur toys that you can put an empty water bottle in. My dogs destroy hard toys and balls and they will even eat the little pieces which really worries me. Anything plush they just rip out all the stuffing. The empty plush ones that hold the empty water bottles seem to have the most lasting power with my dogs and its good for playing fetch. Although they do get dirty.

My dog is a black lab mix we believe with border collie. She desttoys all of her toys! The one thing she has yet to destroy is a toy we randomly found in a pet store. It is a ball inside another open ball. She LOVES it. She literally chases and pushes it around the whole house. I like it because she can independently play with it instead of fetch and its a non chew toy so it gives her teeth a rest. Just a suguesstion besides that I don't know of,anything stronger than the kong and nylabones that is what we give my dog.

That's actually what I've been doing. Target was selling these rubber bones that were actually really tough (and heavy! My pit threw it THROUGH my glass coffee table! Chat Icon) but they stopped selling them! Chat Icon And even those would only last a month tops. They'd get a chunk off and I'd be back at Target. But they wer only $5 so I didn't mind so much- they loved these things! I did just order two toys for each of them on Amazon. They got good reviews so here's hoping!

Link.

I got the "Double Bone" and the "Hollow" both in Wolf. They have pretty decent reviews so I figured what the heck, let's try it out. Plus the double bones will be here in time for my pups to open for Christmas. Chat Icon I'm a dork, I know! But I can't stand the thought of their stockings empty! Haha!

I'm still very open to other toy ideas though! I've been searching for about 4 years now and NOTHING has held up to her chewing. NOTHING.

I'll definitely look into them! My collie mix would LOVE that, but the pit doesn't like to "chase" or "fetch" or anything. She hoards her toys in her crate. Chat Icon Weirdo that she is! So I'm looking more for something for her to do while she's in her crate during the day. But the collie has free run of the house so he'll probably get one in his stocking. Chat Icon Thanks! Shammy rips through everything in minutes. even some balls he will chew through until he can tear pieces off. The only thing that lasts are deer and elk antlers.

Oh I do have an elk antler, that is probably the one thing he can't destroy and boy does he try!! I'm always afraid when he drops it (since it weighs half of what he does! lol) he'll damage my floors.

Chat Icon I married the floor guy so no worries there. My pit does like to fling her toys around though. She destroyed a glass coffee table with one toy! Chat Icon Maybe that will be a crate ONLY toy. Chat Icon

Where can I buy those?

We have a hound/shepherd mix and he's brutal on all toys. He just keeps going till they're destroyed.

If he can't destroy it- he loses interest quickly Chat Icon

Re: Dog Toys for TOUGH Chewers? (Pets X-post)

The deer and elk bones come in all sizes from small to large and split bones to full bones. I have gotten them from Amazon a couple of pet sites and I have seen on the Petco website they have them. Shammy seems to like the split ones the best. He likes to scrap out the inside first. But he will chew on the full bones too.

She was good with the Nylabone for awhile but then she started chewing so voraciously that her gums would bleed. Chat Icon I guess she felt she wasn't making enough progress in destroying it? I felt so bad for her! And there was blood all over. Chat Icon

Chat Icon Yea they do get very rough once they have been chewed a lot.
ETA: Have you tried Kong toys? They are very durable too.

Yupp! Those ones were no good for her. She went through them in about a week and they are expensive! I think she just wanted the treat TOO much for those. Chat Icon She's lucky she's adorable!
