While it is not my style, I have to agree that older furniture is much better made. If you can get DH on board why not try to at least re-upholster first and see how that looks.

I LOVE the cane.
For me - it is my style and I would absolutely re-upholster it.
It's not terribly old-fashioned and I have no idea what to sell it for - sorry!

I agree-you could probably have it painted an re-upholstered for about $800. Staining would be more. I think its gorgeous!

I think it's beautiful and timeless- to be honest I can see you kicking yourself down the line if you decided to get rid of it. But upholstering the seats and maybe painting it will make a definite difference.

I would totally keep it! Cane is very in right now. I think it is a great set. I would actually never buy new dining room furniture ever. I always go with antique or custom. I think if you accented it with more modern decor it would look great! I woul paint te walls BM Revere Pewter or something and do a seagrass rug...

Idk but they do it on HGTV all the time and I LOVE it!!!
Maybe their site has ideas??

I am not a fan of refinishing furniture. I would sell it if you don't like it or keep it as is and maybe redo the seat covers/fabric.
Not sure how much you could get for that.

I think if you stain it darker or paint it bone/white, and refabric the chairs it would look amazing! Furniture is not made that well anymore and if the set is well made, I'd refinish it!
Do you have any idea what dining sets you like better or pictures of inspiration for the room?
