English coonhound dogs?

Does anyone have an English Coonhound dog? We are considering adopting a dog (who is 3.5 months, so still a puppy) and looking for some real insight on this breed. If it matters, I have a cat and a 6 year old DD. thanks!

I dont have one but if he is any type of hound you have to think of the hound traits. Howling and barking, an amazing sense of smell and the desire to use it to track prey, probably would love the water, a wonderful loyalty to its owners and probably easily trained.

Good luck!

Re: English coonhound dogs?

My parents have a coon hound not sure if he is and English or a walker coonhound because we got him at north shore. We got him when I was 16 and my brother 14. He is a great dog! Very smart and loyal. Not really sure how the breed is with other animals. He was friendly at one point but was bit by another dog when he was little so he gets scared and hides by a family member. But never violent or growls. He was a little brat when he was little and liked to run around the house with towels and socks and underwear. But wasn't destructive just liked to be chased. He would also run around the house like a crazy animal for fun. He never really howled or anything like that unless the bell rang. Now he's mellowed a lot and sleeps most of the day. Over all a great dog!

We had a coonhound pointer mix not sure what kind of coonhound we too got him from NSL. He was very smart and vocal. he needed a lot of exercise since he was a sporting breed.
