Nasal Flu Vaccine
How old does a child have to be to get the nasal flu vaccine? I never vaccinated my son since at our last appt at the pediatrician he had other vaccines which they said couldn't be done with the flu. With the hurricane and holidays we just never made it back there and now I'm concerned given this outbreak! I'm usually not an over-worrier, but he isn't even 2 yet so I am a bit concerned. THanks!

Re: Nasal Flu Vaccine
My Ped said at DD's 2 year she was eligible for the nasal vaccine. Not sure if that meant she HAD to be 2 or it just worked out that way.

Usually at 2 they can sniff in and understand better.

Re: Nasal Flu Vaccine
My pediatrician lets them at 2 as long as they are willing. Both my five-year-old and two-year-old got the mist this year. So easy and no tears.

Re: Nasal Flu Vaccine
Isn't the nasal one a live vaccine? I am not a fan of live vaccines for flu.

I didn't know that about it being live. I don't like that it either.

It is live, DS cannot get the nasal version because he has asthma.

Re: Nasal Flu Vaccine
It is live but much weakened and designed not to cause the flu. They definitely won't give it if you have asthma or other respiratory problems.

Re: Nasal Flu Vaccine
Double check, but if this is the first time they are ever receiving the flu vaccine then they need to get the shot with the booster. After that they can get the nasal mist.
Last year was the first year my DD was getting the flu shot and she was 4. The wouldn't give her the mist and she needed the shot and then the booster. This year she did the nasal mist like my son.
