Huntington/Huntington Station

Hey everyone.
I dont usually post here but i am looking for some help. WE currently live in Queens and i work in Manhattan. We live in a 2 bed Apartment and have 1 DC and another DC on the way in May. We have decided to look outside our comfort zone LOL and look at houses in Huntington/Huntington Station. We are not tied to this area but have just heard good things and cant believe the house prices and space compared to Queens.

If anyone can give me any feedback on the area/schools etc and also what the commute to the city is like from this area that would be great.

We are taking a drive out at the weekend to check the area out and maybe look at 1 or 2 houses to see what we think. But i cant live in a shoebox with no garden any longer.

TIA.

Huntington/Huntington Station

Be careful in Huntington station. There are some very not so nice areas. I grew up 2 towns over and would hang out in Huntington all the time and went to law school in Huntington station for a few years before they moved the school. Also check the schools the houses are zoned for. Again some are ones you might not want to go to.

ITA. There's a big gang problem in Huntington Station, so you need to be careful.

Agreed. Personally i would stay away from Huntington Station. And also agree about checking for the school zone - it could be a huntington house location, but huntington station school district. Huntington is about an hour train ride to Penn Station.

Are you talking about South Huntington or Huntington Station by the train? If South Huntington (Behind Walt Whitman Mall), it's an amazing area to live in. Young couples, tight community, South Huntington School district. I would try to stay South of Jericho or if Huntington, towards the actual Village.

The parkway's & Train are 5 mins from me. I am a stone's throw away from the Mall & 5 min drive to the Village were there are a ton of Restaurants, Shops, etc..

I LOVE were we choosed to live.

FM me if you have any questions.

Huntington is lovely, but I would try to steer clear of Huntington Station, some parts are very unsafe.

Re: Huntington/Huntington Station

there are lovely neighborhoods in the Station - but don't be fooled.....

We just moved out of Huntington Station 2 years ago (I was there for 11 years, my DH was there since birth). We weren't comfortable with the idea of raising a family there - with the bad neighborhoods simply bleeding into the good ones. There's too much of a risk that they'll further deteriorate in the next few years. We lived in a very nice area - - and were robbed while we were sleeping. That was the breaking point for us.

I just sent you an FM, I have never lived in Huntington Station, so I can't speak to that, but we moved from Manhattan to Huntington (with a short stop in Nassau County) for the same reasons you stated and couldn't be happier. We now live in a 5 bedroom, 2 bath on a half acre within walking distance to the park for waaaay less than we could have gotten a one bedroom in any of the boroughs. The commute is longer, but so worth it! I can't say enough good things about Huntington

As stated above, there are areas of Huntington Station that you have to be careful about, and other areas that are not a problem. South Huntington and Huntington are really nice areas to live in. There are several different school districst that cover different areas of Huntington - South Huntington SD, Huntington SD and some areas of Huntington go to Half Hollow Hills. Your best bet would probably be to work with a real estate agent who is very familiar with the whole area.

I live in South Huntington and we are very happy with the area and the schools. South Huntingon is technically part of Huntington Station (11746 area code). Don't be put off by the name "Huntington Station". I have lived in Dix Hills (k-12) and South Huntington (as an adult) most of my life. Let me know if you have any questions.

We lived in Huntington Station over 10 years ago and are about 2 towns over now. I would stay away from anything north of E17th st...maybe even north of Jericho all the way up to the station. South of Jericho, like lots of ppl already said, is very nice.

Re: Huntington/Huntington Station

Your realtor should be able to help you out with the areas of Hunt Sta that you might want to avoid b/c as others have said, there are some bad parts.

I live in Centerport and only have a 10 min drive to the Hunt train station, which DH commutes from every day. So you might want to consider parts of Centerport and Greenlawn too.

The train is about and hour from Huntington and my DH says it's not too bad.

We're in Centerport now, and I commute to NYC every day from the Greenlawn station. It's like Mayberry!!! We couldn't be happier!

Thank you ladies for all your input. Lori11514 i really appreciate the detail you sent to me also. It gives us a much better insight to the area and schools. We are going to take a drive out and hopefully decide if it is somewhere we would like to live. Fingers crossed. I am sure i will be in touch with more questions next week. Thank you again ladies.
