Honestly, who the F do the NRA think they are!
I have HAD IT with their crap. Their is NO reason that they should be bullying Congress or our President. No ONE group should have that much influence on our government. I DO NOT understand them I really don't. NO ONE IS TAKING YOUR GUNS AWAY! I swear to all things holy, they piss me off just as much as the Westboro Baptist Church, but what sickens me as much as them, is the fact that our government LET THEM (by lining their pockets) gain all the power they have over them. I don't like lobbyist in general, but the NRA is in a a class of their own. Can someone please help explain to me, why "they plan to work with Congress" - WHO THE F ARE YOU! You are NOT elected officials, you ARE NOT part of our government. I do not doubt for a second they are bullying our congressmen behind the scenes. As if we don't have enough bipartisanship to keep anything productive from happening, WE DO NOT NEED THEIR SH!t.
Sorry, I was reading their statement in this article, and it got my blood boiling.

Did they even read the 23 executive actions? How could anyone say that these actions were infringing on the rights of gun owners.
5. Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.
6. Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers.
7. Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.
8. Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission).
12. Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations.
13. Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.
14. Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.
21. Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges.
22. Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations.
And these are just a few. NOWHERE DOES IT SAY THAT GUNS ARE BEING TAKEN AWAY!!!!
And speaking of the NRA, I love how they sat there a week after Sandy Hook and blamed video games and movies yet they just released a shooting game that was originally rated for children 4 and up (now it's 12 and up).

Just for once, I want our government to get the cajones to stand up to them and tell them to shove it where the sun doesn't shine.

I understand your frustration. I didnt read the article, but based on what you said: they are special interest groups, and that's what they do and they are not alone.

No, they are definitely not, but they are bt FAR the most powerful. My problem with them is not their stance on guns, that is their opinions and beliefs and they are certainly entitled to them whether I agree or not. My issue with them is the stranglehold they have on our government and their far reaching influence.

I feel the same way about Big Pharma. Our elected officials are technically doing the legislating but lobbying groups are making the decisions for them.

Honestly, who the F do the NRA think they are!
and we will have a gun law that does nothing - what is legal and not legal is stupid - they need to ban semi-automatic weapons like in Australia with a buy back/melt down program
But the big thing is fix the database of who can't buy guns - it needs to be national - right now you may be marked in one state but can buy in another state
There is no purpose for a semi-automatic weapon - and if you say sport shooting then just adjust the sport the slightly for non semi-automatic weapons

This might blow everyone's mind but... only 5% of gun owners are NRA members, I think that's been well-established. Now here's something interesting...
Some dissent because they NRA are notorious bullies and known shills for the gun makers and they don't agree with their ideology. Ok Fine.
Significantly more don't belong to NRA because, get this, they see the NRA as CAPITULATING to political pressure. Yep. I'm not making that up.

I always thought the NRA consisted of Ted Nugent and Charlton Heston... who got together in Ted's mother's basement for a game of D&D every Friday night...

Yup this.
Just as much as they can 'work with congress' so can MADD work with congress on alcohol abuse, etc.
You get a group of folks who are focused enough on one topic and knowledgable enough and they too can 'work with congress'.

I always thought it consisted of creepy men who like to shoot animals in their free time. But that's just my personal bias shining through.

My issue isn't with the gun holders who are NOT members of the NRA though? I don't care if its 1% or 73% that belong to the NRA for whatever reason (or don't belong for that matter). My issue is with THOSE THAT DO, even if it is only 5%, my issue is with that 5%. It is NOT their beliefs, they are entitled, it is the STRANGLEHOLD they have on the government.

Oh believe I share rage at current NRA members I really do, they should be shredding up those member cards in droves right now. Unfortunately they are a truly American institution, with a long venerated history of advocating for all that is good about gun ownership and sporting firearms in this country - before they went batshit crazy in the 70s. They have an iconic place in American history, and even though their recent PR disasters are NOT the feelings of their members many stay because they feel like no one else is fighting for their 2A. It's a bind, it's a cultural change (it's like saying "BOY SCOUTS ARE EVIL; LET'S GET RID OF 'EM)" lol. But the demographics of NRA membership are pretty clear - over 30% retired, a very middle-aged or older age skew, white rural male. By demographics alone they'd be extinct relatively soon if they don't change :D

There needs to be a new group.. Gun Owners who DONT support NRA. The Anti NRA Gun owner group.. ahha ANGs! haha oh that's terrible. But I'd support an anti NRA group of gun owners.
Problem is like colette said they have been around forever and they do have SOME good parts (not enough but some). So its a tough thing to push out.
Tho I love the demographics = impending extinction. LOL
ETA: LOL I meant ANG not NAG! omg!

Re: Honestly, who the F do the NRA think they are!
I don't have a problem with the NRA.
They are a special interest group.. they act on what they feel are their best interests. It’s what they are supposed to do.
The PROBLEM is the politicians who allow the NRA..and other special interest groups.. to sway them one way or the other. If the opinions and votes of our representatives are being bought with cash and promises.. well THAT is the bigger issue.
How can we keep our elected officials from being bought?

I agree with you, as well as the PP who mentioned big pharma (and don't forget tobacco).....it's all about stuffing the pockets of the politicians. It's absolutely sickening. This goes for both parties.
