So DH and I are going to New Orleans in two weeks for our first ever adults only vacation!! So excited!!!!! We will be there over superbowl weekend and the week after. Because of the superbowl most of the Mardi Gras activities have been postponed. For those of you who have been there what are your can't miss things to do. TIA

Re: New Orleans Recommendations
My husband and I went there at the end of july for our first anniversary. In my opinion, you have to do all the touristy things...here are some of the things that we did:
Cemetary tours (see the Voodoo Queen's tomb) & ghost tours Eat a Muffaletta at Central Grocery Co. (get half and share it...they're huge) Eat beingets at Cafe Du Monde (kinda like zeppoli's) I loved the zoo, the insectarium (try chocolate cricket cookies) and the aquarium Do a garden district tour If you leave New Orleans, you can do a plantation tour Stay in the French Quarter...we stood a block off of Bourbon St (Hotel Monteleone) and i'm so glad we did Eat po'boys...we went to a little shop in the garden district that was featured on Diners Drive-ins and Dives Walk from bar to bar on Burbon St...get a pic with the Huge Ass Beers sign Horse (really donkeys or mules) and carriage ride from Jackson Square Try all sorts of Louisana food Go to City Park to see the storybook section Harrah's is there if you like casinos If you're a Manning fan, their dad has a restaurant behind Harrah's (not a bad restaurant) We also went through the Hurrican Katrina museum which also housed many costumes and props used in the Mardi Gras paradaes There's also the Mardi Gras museum
Off the top of my head, those are some things that we did. Let me know if you have any questions!

Re: New Orleans Recommendations
We really enjoyed the plantation tour, the city tour on Greyhound, the Mardi Gras museum, and the beignets. Harrahs has a location downtown for something indoors to do.

Re: New Orleans Recommendations
I went in 2005 so I don't know if they still do this.. but it was a "haunted house" tour. We stopped at a couple of bars along the way too. It was pretty cool.

New Orleans Recommendations
Parades start back up a few days after the Superbowl so I would def catch them. Also The french quarter will get crazy as you get closer to Fat Tuesday....I would try and do French Qauter things and then other areas as it gets closer to Fat Tuesday.
I went in my college days and it wasn't fun in the crowds then....I do not thinkI could handle it as an adult.
