flu?
Yup, up to two weeks is what I have been told in the past by my doctor. Both the flu and stomach virus.

Re: flu?
My ds had the flue on a Friday and was cleared to go back to daycare that Monday. It depends on the person. Rule of thumb is 24 - 48 hours with no symptoms.

Re: flu?
We were told that if DD were in daycare we should keep her out for 5 days.

This is the problem: some schools/day cares use the same requirement as a regular fever; your child needs to be 24 hours fever free. In reality, the virus that causes the flu is still with you for up to two weeks afterwards (not always, but you COULD be contageous for up to 14 days).
That's how most of the viruses are spread, after people "feel better" and head back to work or school, still contagious: not just before they know they're actually sick.

But whether they could or could not be contagious isn't the issue to me as much as taking care of yourself. Keep your desk area clean as much as possible. Wipe down areas. Dont let other use your stuff. Wash your hands, keep your hands away from your eyes, nose and mouth.
Flu season or not.
you can't catch something unless you get sneezed on, share a cup or somehow aren't as cautious. I also agree with the other thread that mentions a bad cold is often considered a flu by others. Only a doctor can say. Even then folks who get sick after the girl with the flu came back to work, dont necessarily have the flu.
Still the 'could' be contagious thing is something that's left up to each case. If you are coughing, sneezy and runny nose after diagnosed with the flu then stay home. If you aren't doing any of those and sitting at home bored, well it may be time to consider braving work. Still, I'd stay home at LEAST a full day after I felt 'better' just to give my body time to recoup.
NO WAY id sit at home for 2 weeks! I'd die of inactivity. Plus sitting around in a house would make me feel sick again from resharing germs. I'd go bat crazy!

Re: flu?
During the year when everyone (myself included) got H1N1, my job insittiuted a policy and I think they wanted you fever free for 2 or days
