worried about going into labor at work and driving, has this happened to anyone?
I am due on Thursday and still working. I am trying to avoid stopping work early since I don't want to cut my time home with DC short once she is born. Anyone go into labor at work and have to drive themselves home? I work about 25 miles from home so depending on traffic it could take an hour give or take. I don't have anyone at work who could drive me home. Am I crazy for still working? My job is pretty busy, i work with kids but I am managing. This is my second DC and with my first I started having contractions 2-3 days before having DS so I keep assuming I will have plenty of time with this one too. (which i know i shouldnt). DS ended up a csection but I am trying for a vbac this time around. I ended up having him 2 days after my due date. So far I have only had Braxton hicks and no real patterns to them but i do feel her getting lower and get crampy on and off.
Also, anyone planning on working past their due date? I am due on thursday and wondering if i should plan on going in on Friday or not. I will probably just see what the dr says when I see him on thursday. Just wondering what others would do.

I would probably have a plan b for getting home - I don't think you should drive. Is there anyone who can pick you?
I work in the city and plan on working until the baby comes, and I am planning on calling car service if I go into labor at work. Can you call a car?
As of now I plan on working as long as possible also to maximize my time with the baby. I would think going in on Friday wouldn't be an issue at all.
Good luck!

Re: worried about going into labor at work and driving, has this happened to anyone?
It's really hard to say. With DS#1 when my contractions started they were intense and I would have never been able to drive myself. With DS#2 my water broke and I was still able to shower and make my way to the hospital within a reasonable time and yes I could have driven myself if I wanted to.
I wouldn't chance going to work if you are feeling contractions. You would never be able to drive yourself when the contractions are closer together. If you feel good Thursday and Friday morning then yes I would go into work. Just don't chance anything. If you feel there is the slightest chance that contractions are starting then leave work and don't second guess it.
Good luck!

I was at work (at my due date time) and had what I thought was contractions (ended up being heavy duty BH) and my friend drove me home. They stopped once I was home!! 10 days later my son was born. It takes a while for your contractions (most ppl) to get to the point where your unable to do anything. they get worse as time progresses. Good Luck

i plan on working until my due date...and i work in the bronx, live in queens and delivering at LIJ (Dh works in the city). he is really nervous that the same thing will happen - me going into labor while at work and him not being able to get to me. we have 2 plans... plan 1 - is if my water breaks and i need to get home asap...i have two friends that will take me home; one will drive me in my car and the other will follow in their car and then take the other one back to work. DH will meet me at home as it is an easier trip for him then the bronx. plan 2 - if i have mild contractions i will wait for DH to get to me (via cab, train etc) and he will drive me home.
im hoping it doesnt happen at work of course though

Yesterday was my due date. I worked. Today I'm only not working because I have doctor this afternoon. If the doctor says nothing is going on, I will probably go to work on Wednesday. I work 40 miles away and it takes me around 1 1/2 hrs to get home. If the contractions are bad at work, I have a few friends who have offered to drive me home, but I need to leave my car at work. If they're not bad, I plan on driving myself home. Do what you feel comfortable with.

I plan to work until I deliver. Luckily, DH and I work in the same building, so my driver would be here if something should happen.
If he didn't though, I would probably either call my mom or his parent's to come get me and take me, or just call a car service. I would not risk driving myself just in case.

I have this same situation! but in case he didn't work in the same building I would definitely call my parents

Re: worried about going into labor at work and driving, has this happened to anyone?
Crashing but I drove to work the day I had DS#3. I was having contractions that morning but I was only 36 weeks so I thought it was nothing. I live in Melville and drove to Brooklyn. When the contractions got really bad, I left work and went home to get DH. It wasn't bad because I could have pulled over if I needed to. It would have been worse if I was on the train.
You know what you can handle.

If you have a couple of friends who offered at work, then just have one drive your car and one drive you then they can drive back together....just an idea!!!
