Can someone explain to me follicles? (sorry)
Stupid question so SORRY ahead of time..
My sonographer was too wrapped up in my ovaries to explain what the heck she was doing.. she was looking and measuring follicles.. are these eggs? are we supposed to have one of these or more each cycle?
I had one that measured 12-13 yesterday which was 8dpo that they were mumbling about.. is this my 'egg' that I am Oing? i hear ab people having more and hoping nothing is wrong with me!

Each follicle theoretically represents an egg but realistically, not every follicle contains an egg. For example, when someone goes for IVF they rarely come out with the same number of eggs as they had of follicles.
The reason you hear of women having more than one is because in a medicated cycle, more than one is usually produced. In one of my IVF cycles I had 50 even  There is NOTHING wrong with you though because for a normal person who ovulates in an unmedicated cycle, typical just ONE is there. If it was so common to have more than one, you would see lots more non fertility patients having multiples!

Actually, you would still have more than one follicle in a natural cycle. But, only one will take the lead, grow and produce an egg to be released (ovulation). The rest will just basically disappear with your next AF. And then it all starts new again.
I found this out during a natural FET cycle. Wasn't expecting to see so many follicles.
With meds they push all the follicles so they grow and produce an egg (ideally at the same rate). If the follicle doesn't contain an egg its most likely because it was immature.

while i agree with what everyone has said i dont understand why you would have a 12-13mm follicle at 8dpo. did you mean cd8 or literally 8dpo? if it was 8dpo i would think you might be developing a cyst (which is common). you really shouldn't have any measurable follies at 8dpo though. its not necessarily problem, i just find it odd and would ask about it.

I think she means CD8 (cycle day 8) because she said she will be Oing soon.
Don't be sorry, not a stupid question at all :) I agree with everyone. Sometimes you could have one follicle, sometimes more than one. Sometimes it has an egg, sometimes not. And sometimes you can release an egg from more than one follicle at ovulation, sometimes just one.

Yes I totally meant cd8, sorry. So they only spoke among themselves about one so I am thinking its my only girl. I really need to start asking them more questions! Thanks for not making me feel dumb
