Re: Child's Party in the summer- Weekday? YES OR NO

If most off the moms do not work outside of the home I love this idea. My husband is only off on weekends, so we like to do family things on Saturdays & Sundays. I would much more prefer going to a kids party by myself with the kids during the week instead of doing it on a weekend. I'm always looking for things to do with the kids during the week to keep them busy, especially in the summer!

Unless it was a close friend, I would not take off for a child's birthday party.

I know you said that most of the parents are SAHM/teachers, but keep in mind that you risk offending the working moms, knowing that they can't take their kids unless they take the day off. Just something to consider Chat Icon

Many kids do some form of camp or program at their preschool or town. Can you feel it out first ask the parents say I am thinking of doing x would you be willing to try for that or no? I have been asked that before.

Truthfully I have so much time so it was just a thought. Only Bc of how her bday falls and the weekend before is her dance recital. But it's no biggie. I will see Bc I do think mostly all the moms are sahms so it is probably a NON issue

however to save the risk of not including everyone I'll probably stick to the Sunday before. Thanks ladies!

It's a tough one

i'm a FTWM and if i got an invite to a childs bday party in the summer, i'd be pretty bummed that we couldn't go and i'd think it's a little insensitive that the parent chose to do that, knowing that some people obviously couldn't go. I also wouldn't take a day off unless it was for a very close friend or family member, and even then i'd probably be annoyed that they chose to do it on a weekday.

But you say most of your friends are SAHM and would/could go. But do the kids have summer activities scheduled for the weekdays already like camp etc? maybe you should check with your friends first?

This is was first thought also. Even though your friends are SAHM/teachers, many may have enrolled the child in some sort of summer program.

Totally hear ya. Bc I've been there. 2 yrs ago dd had a party during the week and it wS my day to work and I had to take the day off which was a little annoying Bc I didn't want to "waste" it but felt bad missing and TBH I did complain.

I think I have my answer. Lol

Child's Party in the summer- Weekday? YES OR NO

there are just so many bday party rules these days.
i have been to a few parties where a sitter/friend/family member brings the working mom's kid.

Re: Child's Party in the summer- Weekday? YES OR NO

We actually had DS's party this year on a day off from school in September (it was a Wed). I fully expected to have less kids then if I had it on a weekend, but both DH and I work weekends so for US it worked. We actually had a great turn out and a bunch of people told me they thought it was a great idea since the kids were off and they had to figure out something for them to do anyway. I guess the summer is different since some kids are in camps or daycare, but I would just do what you want to do as long as you realize there will be people who will miss it due to work.

Exactly, and we had a few kids at DS's party with sitters or other family members.

I work full time so nope I wouldn't and even with enough notice I probably would not take off. I get limited amount of vacation time and I want to save those days for vacations of if DS is sick.

this exactly.

Yup and to be honest, if i got the invite i'd be like Chat Icon

It already s*cks that we lose out on so many playdates and other things during the week, so it would just add insult to injury that my son would have to miss out on a birthday party too because i work. Chat Icon

I would never do it, no. But i've always been one to have parties later in the afternoon like 4pm for those parents that also work on the weekends (even though i don't).

I wouldn't do a weekday. I would afraid of too many no's due to that.

I work full-time so no. Plus I feel like you might run into kids who do summer camps and stuff like that.

We always have our kids party during the week. We do it on the later side though in the 4 - 5 range. I would say 95% of the people come. The last couple of years we've had FunStation and Chuck E Cheese and those places are a NIGHTMARE on the weekends!

I wouldn't because all my close friends are FTWM...but if my guest list was sahm I would totally go for it! I love that it is on their actual birthday

Honestly, if your friend are mostly SAHM or off or the summer, then I say go for it. You will probably pay less and it will certainly be less crowded then a weekend.

Re: Child's Party in the summer- Weekday? YES OR NO

I left early to take my DD to a bday party for my nephew.

It was at White Post.

I prefer it actually. It was like 2.5 hrs, bam, done. Whereas if it's on a weekend I feel like it cuts the day, kwim?

eta: It was definitely in the evening.

I work full time and wouldn't take a day for a birthday party. I need those days. I'd feel bad that my DS would miss out on a party tho.

It would depend on my relationship with the mom/the kids. Honestly, if I am taking a day off mid-week in the summer I'd be heading to the beach with DD not a farm where I'd be hot and miserable.
