I should introduce myself

I stumbled upon this board. I've been on LIF for probably 6+ years. My middle child, DS, was getting speech through EI since 20 months. Now that he had another series of evals for CPSE he has been labeled at our meeting PDD-NOS. the psychologist in her eval saw some mild to moderate signs of autism. He's getting speech 2x, OT 2x and social skills once. The district approved a half day preachool program. I'm waiting to hear back from a preschool Half day as to whether they will take him. I'm really glad this board exists! Looking forward to learning a lot from all of you

Welcome, my DS is 5.5 and is ASD. he started with EI at 15 months and was formally diagnosed at 18.

Nassau or Suffolk? what schools have you looked into?

Thanks! We are In nassau. We just get a call that he got a spot at variety! Not til march but so excited!

Variety is a WONDERFUL school! I simply cannot say enough good things about. My child goes there. He is supported by the most loving teachers and therapists, who have helped him make such wonderful gains this year. I was in your shoes not too long ago....wondering where was the best place for my child and the moment I walked into Variety, I knew that was the school for us! At Variety, I know my child is safe, cared for and most importantly taught in the best way possible. I am so happy for you and your family that you have a chance to work with such an outstanding preschool. From one mom to another, please make sure that if you take "advice" from someone else, that they are a parent of a child who actually went to Variety and know the school inside out like I do. Make sure they aren't just someone who thinks they know what Variety is like. This is my first post on LIFamilies, but I couldn't help writing to you. Best of luck....
