endometriosis

I was wondering for those of you with the diagnosis...what were your symptoms and how did you finally get your diagnosis?

Re: endometriosis

I was diagnosed with endometriosis in my early 20s. I had severe pelvic pain. I was diagnosed and treated via laproscopic surgery. I believe that's the only way endo can be truly diagnosed. After the surgery I was put on the pill which seemed to do a good job of handling the endo. I also did some treatments on my own with herbs. I have not had any symptoms since the surgery.

Re: endometriosis

about 10 years ago, i had my period one month and couldn't believe the severe cramps i had, like doubling over type cramps. since i never really had cramps like that, i knew something was up. my parents took me to the hospital and they started doing all these checks and sonos. they checked me in over night, because they were concerned it was my appendix. after 3 days in the hospital, they finally diagnosed cysts on my ovaries. i went several months back and forth to gyno and she was hoping the cysts would stop growing, but they didn't, so she finally decided to do lapro to remove the cysts. it was not until they were in there with the cameras did they realize it was way more than cysts and i had endo all over. gyno said lapo is really the only true way to diagnose.

btw, the treatment after that was 3 monthly shots of lupron to put body in a "state of menopause" to stop endo from coming back. being in my early 20's in menopause stunk and i don't know if it really worked.

Re: endometriosis

thanks guys for you replies..I have been having a lot of pain on my right side by my ovary since O and I am waiting for AF..(although I wish she wouldn't come this month)
Just was wondering why and if it could be endo.
I don't have very severe pain during AF.

Endo is so weird because the symptoms vary so much -- you can have a ton of pain, but end up with a very mild case (like me) or you can have little or no pain, but have a really serious case. It's impossible to know without surgery. Good luck!

Re: endometriosis

My sister has it too..It is an awful disease that gets so little discussion and research. She knew she had it for about 3 years before getting an offical diagnosis. My aunt has it so Tammy knew what it was about.

Re: endometriosis

I had no symptoms whatsoever - no painful cramping, and I had regular periods. I was shocked when I was diagnosed (in connection with infertility testing and an HSG)

Re: endometriosis

I just had lapro for it on Tues. I had no pain from it, but like someone else mentioned I have painful periods. Well my doc. did a mini sono and found cysts on both ovaries. She sent me to have a full sono with a sono tech, and sure enough I was told it was endo. I was referred to a RE and he put me on Lupron Depot to shrink them. Luckily my case wasn't so bad that when he did my Lapro., he said I was good as new.
