Hi there thinking about switching obgyns before my next pregnancy. I live in northwest nassau (near queens border). I love my current doc but i think the practice is getting too huge. And you still have to wait weeks to see who you want. I was wondering if you could let me know how many partners are in your group, and your average wait time to schedule an appointment? Not for emergency but urgent situations (think bad yeast infection or bc switch or something!) I was told 5 weeks was the earliest i could get an appt to switch my bc and that wasn't even with my first or second choice doc and i barely had any input over day or time. Is this typical? Or are you happy with your boutique gyn practice? Tia!

Re: Obgyn recs

I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Dilena in Garden City on Stewart Avenue. I use to see another dr who didn't tell me wasn't in network, and then didn't make me feel comfortable about my painful periods, my cyst he found and that I didn't want to take birth control.

I ended up getting a 2nd opinion with Dr. Dilena. When I called, the appointment was easy to make and fast. I had to wait a week ONLY because of my schedule. When I got there, I had to fill out all new paperwork and by the time I did that and then got called in to meet with him first (consulation) it was about 10 mins. My appointment was at 6:30pm.

I met with him and he took down all my information. I had to have a cyst followed and he was very informative of what to expect and what the next steps would be to follow. I went into the examining room where he did all the work himself. He is very hands on with everything. So he only did a sonogram since I just had an annual exam in October. He noticed something else that my previous dr didn't.

Well then we spoke about that. He ended up asking me to sign release forms to obtain my previous records. I did that, after about two weeks that the previous dr sent the information over and Dr. Dilena himself called to explain everything and I don't have to go back until October. So everything was good news!

I was very happy with him.

As far as his practice, I believe there are three other drs. I am not trying to get pregnant yet but did inquire about the practice. They are affiliated with Winthrop hospital (which was my preference) and whichever dr is on call for that day is the dr that would deliever the baby. However, he suggested that I should get acquainted by all the drs on staff while I am a patient there so if and when the time comes, I feel comfortable with everyone.

He has very good bedside manners and that is a plus to me. I don't see drs who don't. He is very informative and explains things clearly and is not an alarmist.

As far as time management goes for offices, some offices only accommodate their staff and drs, and not the patients. I work in Brooklyn so it takes me time to get back home. This practice has late night appointments, and I had no issues scheduling an appointment or obtaining one.

I suggest looking into another practice. I don't find it professional for a patient to wait weeks to see a dr, especially with a yeast infection. They can easily prescribe something to you in the meantime of the wait.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Yes, please try him out and let me know what you think. I was very surprised at how hands he was, but I appreciate that as well. You won't be disappointed!

I see a great group called Preferred women's healthcare. They have two offices: one in great neck and the other in Woodbury. The doctors are dr. Henry prince, dr. Harvey marchbein, Melissa Oppenheimer, and Jeanine Morris rush. I switched to them four years ago after a horrible experience after a miscarriage with another doctor. I've used preferred for two pregnancies. The office is great and the staff warm.

I switched almost a year ago to Northern Obstetrics and Gynecology in New Hyde Park. I believe they are affiliated with North Shore.

I see Dr. Marinese and LOVE her. As a new patient she met with me for half an hour before my appointment just to go through all my information and history. After switching to a new BC I was getting severe anxiety, and I sat in the exam room trying not to cry over how anxious I had been feeling. She picked up on it & let me just cry for 5-10 minutes, even though I'm sure I looked like a nutjob, haha. She changed my BCP & called the next month to see how I was doing.

Whenever I have an issue & don't need an appointment, I can call & speak to her nurse who will call me back within an hour or two.

When I call I can get an appointment within a day or two, and they have Saturday hours which I like. It's a huge practice, I think about 6-7 doctors, most are female.
