Breast feeding moms
Ds is 6 days old. Did you wake your dc at night to nurse? Last night he ate at 7, 12 and now at 530. Is that too long? Sleep was amazing but now I am feeling guilty that maybe I should have woke him. He is eating every 2 to 3 hours all day.
My twins were premies so I had to wake them but I am not sure what the norm is.
Thanks!

Breast feeding moms
I woke my DS every 3 hours to eat, especially since he dropped too much initial weight and it took a little longer to gain it back than the pediatrician would have liked. Once he gained everything back and continued to gain appropriately, I enjoyed the 5 hour stretch he gave me at night. (He was probably between one and a half to two months).
Eta:
Not only do they need to eat, but nursing in the beginning is what helps to kick in your breast milk.

As long as he is gaining weight appropriately, there is no need to wake him! Talk to your ped about it at the next visit. Sounds like his body is already figuring out day and night, which is awesome. Enjoy the sleep!

Re: Breast feeding moms
I wouldn't wake him, I'd be doing backflips that he's sleeping so well at night!
Don't worry, he will absolutely let you know when he's hungry.

it's funny because the night before was a nightmare. I guess my milk finally came in and he's finally full. Hoping its not a fluke!!

Re: Breast feeding moms
My ped said to wake every 4 hours at night and every 3 hours during the day until weight gain was well established. I woke during the night for the first week and a half - 2 weeks. I woke her during the day for the first month because I didn't realize I could have stopped. Probably should have

Re: Breast feeding moms
My ped said for the first few weeks to feed him every 2-3 hours, At the one month visit the doctor said not to wake him at night if he slept longer. I didn't have issues with DS sleeping through the night (he had his days and nights mixed up) so I never needed to ask whether to wake up at night earlier than a month. You need to get your supply established so you really need to be nursing that often.

Re: Breast feeding moms
No, but they never went that long between feedings at that age. As long as he's gaining weight, I wouldn't wake him.

My pediatrician said to wake them the first two weeks to ensure they gain weight...after that you can follow their lead.

Re: Breast feeding moms
I stuck to a schedule during the day but after the final feeding for the day (around 11pm) I would never wake my dd. She usually woke after 4 hours, but if she could make it longer I would have loved it. My dd was small and took awhile to regain weight but my doc never had me wake her.

This! I stopped waking DD after she gained her birth weight back (which happened to be around 5-6 days). Enjoy ur sleep & hopefully it's the sign of many nights of sleep to come!!!!

Breast feeding moms
Until baby regained her weight I wouldn't let her go longer than 4 hours between feedings.
