Update on our home euthanasia
I just got an FM about our experience with having a home euthanasia for our dog and figured I would post here too in case any else is interested in hearing/learning about the process... We decided that doing it at home was the right choice for us. My Tasha got nervous in the car and hated the vets office. This was our last gift to her. If it had to be done, and it did, we wanted her in the comfort of her own home. I would highly recommend the vet we used. Her name is Dr. Jana and the website is calis-way.com I live in White Plains and I know she is based out of Westchester. I'm not sure if she travels, but it would be worth looking into. The process itself was pretty peaceful, even though I was a complete wreck. First they give a shot of a sedative in her back which made her drowsy. She even sounded like she was snoring. The one part I didn't like was that it made her tongue just hang out of her mouth, but fortunately my friend prepped me for that beforehand so I knew it was normal. Then she shaved an area of her arm and gave her a second sedative. This one made her lay still and her eyes closed. Then she gave us time to say goodbye. The last shot is the final one and she only lived for a few seconds after. It was one if the most heartbreaking, yet special experiences. I am so glad we did it the way we did. I have so much love for her and I know she felt that love when she passed. Had it been done at the vets office, all she would have felt was fear. Dr. Jana took her and carried her to her car. I didn't like that she put her in the trunk, but I guess she can't be expected to drive around with a dead dog in her backseat. The cremation only took a week and she even brought the urn back to our house. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

Update on our home euthanasia
BIL & SIL did a home euthanasia for their dog last summer. The dog would get very aggressive in the car or at a vet so I suggested they use my vet to do it at home (We live in Suffolk) they said it was the best decision they made, they all had peace and everyone felt much more calm about it. I'm glad it worked out the same for you. Sorry for your loss.

Re: Update on our home euthanasia
I just bawled my eyes out reading this. I've been there before and did the same thing as you. Myself and my pet wouldn't have survived that "last ride" to the vet office. I also highly recommend doing it in the home. Absolutely one of the worst experiences in life is putting an animal down. Sorry for your loss!
