Great vacation for parents---Help
We are sending my parents to Italy for their anniversary this July. The problem is that my father had knee surgery last July and is having an awful time recovering, so I am not sure a trip to Italy would be the best
Can anyone suggest a really great vacation that could make up for Italy? Something around the $6000 range (with airfare). Thanks!

a trip where long walks are limited is needed...maybe a cruise? or an escorted tour?
how is he for sitting for long periods of time? if that is difficult, i would look for something that did not involve a 6+ hour flight. does he like the beach? maybe bermuda?
not sure what would make up for italy, but depending on his interests, im sure you can find a trip that he would be interested in that might be easier on his knee

I think a beach vacation will be good! I am also concerned about the plane as well. We just recently went to Florida, and he said he was nervous about the flight to Italy bc his leg was starting to bother him just going to FL.

Re: Great vacation for parents---Help
what about renting them a nice condo and a car in hilton head, sc. the flight is not that far.
my parents went there last summer and they said it was gorgeous and relaxing. beautiful beaches. and if there are into historical stuff, i dont think the drive to savannah, GA is that far
in total, the trip would probably cost less than $6K. so if you really want that as the budget, i would either get them a prepaid credit card, so that ALL their expenses during the trip (from food to gas to souveniers) would be covered...or i'd probably get them another gift on the side (do they need anything in the house...maybe buy a new TV and install it when they are gone?)
Bermuda is also pretty close and gorgeous.

We recently returned from Le Blanc in Cancun and it was amazing! I would def. look into it for an all inclusive beach option.

Re: Great vacation for parents---Help
I would look for places that are handicap accessible, and that could provide a scooter (maybe even rent one from the pharmacy stores). So if your parents want to tour a place, or go on certain excursions, he doesn't need to worry about his knee.
MOST hotels and places can provide wheelchairs. One of my friends got hurt real bad when we went on vacation. Twisted her whole leg and her ankle fractured. But, the hotel was able to provide a wheelchair for her to use from the room to the pool and they use for the tours.
Italy would have been an amazing trip but its heavy walking. I'd opt to go for a beach all inclusive deal.
The excellence resorts in Mexico, and DR are AMAZING!!! All adults, tons of activities, bars, top rated restarurants, and its all inclusive. HIGHLY recommend!!
A cruise is another option but then I'd find out about the handicap accessibility.

If he really want to go to italy and you can afford it can you upgrade him to first class so he can more leg room and be more comfortable in the flight

I thought about this, but my travel agent said it is a ridiculous amount of money...I am waiting on her reply as to how much it really is!

Check out Casa de Campo in the DR. Beautiful resort and they provide golf carts to get around the property.
Flight is about 4 hours
