Lactation Consultant
Can anyone recommend a lactation consultant in the Commack area? Hopefully, we won't need one, but wanted to have some references just in case.
Oops, just posted on Parenting too. Not sure which board is better.
Thanks.

Re: Lactation Consultant
I don't live in the area but have had great results with lactation consultants. I had issues breastfeeding both of my children. I made it to 6 months with #1 and 12 months with #2 but not without a lot of work!!
I don't know a specific one in your area, but here are some sites that have names:
Le Leche of Suffolk County
International Lactation Consultants

Re: Lactation Consultant
Some hospitals give you a packet of papers when you deliver, and the packet includes info on lactation support. I definitely suggest finding out what you can ahead of time- I waited until my baby was born, then had such trouble finding a group (life was so crazy with a newborn) that I wasn't able to see someone till 2 weeks after I gave birth- you don't want to be in that position. In addition to what the others here have suggested, you can call the hospital and get the maternity department (post-partum area) and ask for the info on the sheet. I do know that there is a breastfeeding support group that operates out of South Side hospital in Bay Shore- tthey are actually on meetup.com. I may seem far from Commack, but it is soooo worth the drive if you need help! Good luck, and don't give up.
