Stroller/car seat/ infant inserts???

I'm trying to figure out the stroller/car seat situation and I keep seeing these infant inserts, adapters, attachments, etc. and I am soooo confused!

Can someone (with patience) break the whole travel system down for me? Like what do you actually need? And what is the relationship between a car seat and a stroller, do they fit into each other?

Re: Stroller/car seat/ infant inserts???

with my dc#1 - i got a travel system. i was very overwhelmed by the whole car seat/stroller situation and just went with what was easiest. unfortunately i ended up hating it. i needed to use my stroller on a daily basis. i found the stroller hard to close - bulky and it took up my whole trunk. with that said - i was living in an apt - no driveway and had a small car. at 9 weeks old i ended up going out and buying the city mini & the car seat attachment. i really love that stroller. it is so easy to open & close and is light and doesnt take up a ton of room in the car trunk. my son is now almost 3 and still fits!

what wish i wouldve done was seperately get an infant car seat with the snap & go for the infant stage. then the city mini for when he outgrew the infant seat. the travel systems are expensive and to get the multiple pieces isnt much more $$ then the travel system.

i hope this helps you. good luck!

edited to say - buy buy baby was much more helpful with associates knowing the products and guiding you along. you may want to stop in there and ask for some help - hopefully they will guide you through the process.
just dont pick something like i did and find out after you already spent the money that it doesnt fit your needs.

We didn't register for a travel system. Instead, we registered for a stroller where the seat comes out and you could use the frame with an adapter to snap in the car seat. It's like a stroller AND snap n go in one Chat Icon

The thing about the travel systems is I heard they are bulkier.. but I don't know much about it.

we registered for a travel system that came with the infant carrier & stroller.. i only use that stroller when i am out on walks in the neighborhood with DS since it is bulky to transport... i used a snap n go when he was in the infant carrier to use while we were out.. now that he is in a regular car seat i use an umbrella stroller (maclaren) when we go out.

for DS i had the Graco snugride infant seat and i got the snap and go. Loved it!!! super easy to get him in and out of, and the snap and go is just a frame so its light and easy to manuever and fold up. It also had a nice size basket for storage. I also had registered for and received a citi mini stroller - we started using it once DS was sitting up on his own sometimes. But i used the snap and go for probably at least 9 months!!!

i didn't register/use a travel system.

I used the infant seat with the snap n go frame until DD was done with the infant seat for trips/away from the house (that was in my trunk).

On my registry I had the uppa baby vista (which we used for inside as a bassinet, sleeping, feeding etc and for walks, park, beach, vaca).

That being said...the vista is not the stroller in my trunk for quick trips (mall, store, etc). We got an umbrella stroller for that after the snap n go. We would have been okay with something like a city mini or just umbrella stroller but I wanted something with a bassinet/reversible handles etc.

This.

I registered for the city select and the car seat adaptor to go with the Chicco keyfit car seat.
Almost EVERYONE recommended us getting the snap and go as well for the beginning but I couldn't rationalize getting a whole separate system.

many strollers have separate adapters that you can attach to it and use certain car seats. for instance im getting the uppa vista stroller and a maxi cosi adapter so that the maxi cosi car seat can fit onto the stroller.

We did the Uppababy cruz! Seems to make so much more sense this way. Chat Icon
