Southside Hospital was AMAZING!!!!
Recently, I gave birth to my daughter at Southside Hospital. I just wanted to let you know that my DH, DD, AND I had an amazing experience and had the most wonderful care.
I was a scheduled c-section. I am a first time mom. I was scared out of my mind. The nurses, anesthesiologists and staff were amazing!!
We did get a private room because I wanted DH to stay with me. The private room is in a separate wing with only two rooms that are not suites. The suite is still $210. If you are a c-section they make you pay the $840 in advance, even if you only stay 3 days like I did.
The NURSES are amazing! I know your doctor is important to you, but really the nurses are out of this world! Even the nurses aides were helpful!
Oh, and if you want to get a private room pack a bag for your DH. Make sure you include a pillow and blanket. My DH had to ask for one.
Your bag stays in the car until you get a real room.
Breakfast and lunch are served buffet style and the food is yummy!!! Make sure you save some snacks for yourself. I suggest the brownies! Also, dinner is brought to your room. The amazing nutritional aide that came around said we did not have to order off the real menu, that we could have anything we want! That meant grilled cheese and hamburger and soda! I had too! So just add those wants onto the slip they give you in the am.
Bring slippers, pjs (gowns), and all your toiletries.
Oh and there is a bell your DH ring when you go up the the 2nd floor after giving birth! It is a lullaby but everyone in the hospital or that section of the hospital can hear it!
Al in all I cannot say enough great things! Amazing!!!!! DO IT!

Oh WOW!!! I have been going back and forth over which hospital I was to deliver in. I have heard so many wonderful things about Southside and not so much about Good Sam. Think you may have sold my choice!!!

I don't get the whole buffet style thing
Do you have to get up and eat somewhere else? Where is the baby?

You have to get up and go get your breakfast and lunch. If you physically can't, someone will bring it to you. I always sent my baby to the nursery at night, and was able to go to breakfast before they brought her back. At lunch, DH stayed with her while I got my food. But otherwise you have to wheel the bassinet down with you. Honestly, I thought it was kind of annoying and didn't think the food was really that good but otherwise my experience was great.

Can you explain this a little more.
When I delivered there about 3 years ago, private rooms were first come first serve - we couldn't reserve them at all. Also, the private rooms were in the same wing/hallway as the doubles. Things must've changed.

Yes, you cannot reserve a private room but for c-sections you pay for 4 days in advance even if you stay for 3. They will reimburse your card. There were only 2 double rooms on the wing with the private suites. The rest were down the other wing.
