Winthrop Orientation .. useful?
Ok so obviously I'm lining up all my classes today! I decided to do breastfeeding, infant CPR, and the orientation- though I may call up to cancel the orientation because it doesn't really come with a tour like I thought it would and not sure how useful it is otherwise. Anyone done the orientation and have any input?

Re: Winthrop Orientation .. useful?
I did 2.5 years ago and it wasn't bad. They did a tour but mostly of the laboring area not the new born area if I remember correctly.
I was just there last week when my daughter was born. I wasn't as happy with it there as I was at Mercy two years ago when I had my son. If you have questions feel free to fm me.

Thanks! What if you have a csection .. do they discuss that at all?

Re: Winthrop Orientation .. useful?
I did it - it's a tour of the labor and delivery suites and they go over what your stay there will be like and where you should park/go when you have to go there for real. And they also answer any questions you may have too.
I didn't see the maternity ward, but honestly it was just like any other hospital ward when i was there except you had to have bracelets to get into the nursery (so obviously, no tours given there)
We actually waited to do the cpr course until after he was born and closer to eating solids because we felt a little overwhelmed with all the stuff they try to teach you before the baby is even born. We figured we'd get used to the idea of having a baby, then learn what we're supposed to do with it!

Winthrop Orientation .. useful?
We did it and found it useful. It just put our minds at ease for when the day came.

We also did it and I found it very helpful. I took it through my doctor. At the hospital though they went over everything and where you'll be from the time you get there and we were brought upstairs to maternity. We were really happy we did it.

This... I'm glad we went but I wouldn't say it is absolutely necessary. They did show us the room where the c-section would be done, but only because it wasn't being used at the time.

I went on the tour and had a scheduled c-section. I told them at the beginning I was having a c-section so they explained how that would work. I didn't get to see the OR of course!
I found it useful and definitely eased my mind.

Re: Winthrop Orientation .. useful?
We went a few months ago & it was a waste. It was a powerpoint presentation, no tour. They talked mostly about vag delivery & labor. I am a repeat section. Your going to be going up there for your other classes, so you will be familar w/ hospital, parking, etc.. I would skip it. They had a pediatrican talk for a few mins at the end.

I went to the orientation too. Same with the pp, no tour just a power point presentation. I didn't think it was entirely useful but did walk away with learning a few new things and since it was free it was worth the 2 hr time investment. In order to get a tour at Winthrop I believe you have to take the Lamaze class. I didn't do that, didn't get a tour. As long as I knew where l&d was i figured i would be ok (which I was )

Re: Winthrop Orientation .. useful?
We did a tour through our obgyn childbirth classes. I found it useful just to see the lay out and what to expect. My husband was happy to see where to park, where to go, etc. That is probably different though then setting something up directly with the hospital. I am not sure.
