If you make baby food

How'd you make peas? I have a bag of organic sugar snap peas in my fridge, and the shell is edible, but should I shell them before pureeing? If I can't use those, what kind should I buy?

I'm suffering from major mommy brain today and can't remember what I did with DD1...

If you make baby food

shell steam or boil and puree. If you boil save some cooking liquid because it will be grainy and you need a little bit of liquid to make it some what smooth

I'd shell them first as the PP's suggested.

Peas were DD's favorite (still are actually). I always buy the microwave steam in bag peas. Steam them in the microwave and then puree in the blender with some water. They are supposedly harder to get smooth so I always did the blender instead of the food processor.

honestly I would eat the sugar snap peas that are in your fridge and then buy a bag of frozen peas at the store. defrost them and puree them.

Yes, definitely this. Peas are so easy! Don't make it harder than you need to.

if you can I'd say just go get regular peas; if not then deshell the sugar snap ones; steam (or boil) and then puree. I plan on making peas tonight for my DS!

If you make baby food

I always ran them through a strainer to get rid of the skin after pureeing.

If I make a large batch, can I refreeze it?

Yep. Once you cook them it's fine to freeze them again.

Yes! That's why I recommended cooking the peas. Once they're cooked, they can be refrozen. If you just let them thaw, it's supposedly not okay to re-freeze (not really sure why, though).

Re: If you make baby food

I get the bag of already shelled ones at Trader Joes. They are not expensive at all.

Re: If you make baby food

I buy frozen peas or organic loose peas in a bag at whole foods and boil them in water according to the directions, then puree in the blender with water. peas/green beans are super easy to make this way.
