Plumber pricing
So apparently I have no concept of what it costs to do things with plumbing.
Dh and I have redone our bathroom, and need someone to come out to install the tub drain/overflow, the toilet, and the radiator (hot water heat)
I just called a plumber who was suggested by our neighbor bc they live in the area, and he wants 600 to do the work. We're providing the materials.
$600?!?! It's most likely going to take him an hour-two hours.
I'm obviously in the wrong profession.
Does anyone know if this is standard pricing? Have a plumber you know who could do this?

Try Nick from A1 Plumbing in Westbury. I got his info from Angie's List and he is very highly rated. Not sure if he does the work you are looking for -- he replaced a leaky valve for us -- but it's worth a phone call! Very professional and reasonably priced!

Plumber pricing
unfortunately plumbing is really expensive. just shop around and see if the prices you are getting are all within the same range, that will let you know if this plumber is way off or if he's in the ball park range. HTH!

Re: Plumber pricing
I don't think it's unfair at all.
DH is self-employed and works with a lot of plumbers through his work. It's not "easy" kind of work.
One of his best friends is a plumber and he didn't want to charge us for replacing our boiler after Sandy.
We gave him $1000 for his labor and he was only here for a couple of hours each time, AND had assistance from DH.
I'm not trying to be snarky, but any kind of house maintenance is not cheap, especially if you want it done correctly.

I agree. Plumbing is a very expensive service unfortunately. My DH does plumbing (has his own construction business) and I come from a family of licensed plumbers. Their work doesn't come cheap. DH said that the quote you received is actually a good price!
Def call around though and maybe you can find someone who can beat it. Never know

Plumber pricing
Sounds reasonable. We had a plumber change our faucet/ clear the drain. He was here for 1.5 hours and it cost. $250 plus. That was for a much more simple job.

We're getting ready to do some upgrades to our house and I've just laid out $500. Twice. To the architect.
I can't imagine how much the other stuff is going to cost.

Thanks everyone! We really haven't paid for any work on our house-dh and I have done it all ourselves so I had no clue how much it should cost. And I guess I'm cheap lol.

Re: Plumber pricing
Great update.
DH is doing most of the work himself on our house too, or having his contractor friends do it, and he STILL feels that we are going to end up over budget for what we want to do.
Sometimes I miss being a renter for this reason alone, but it will be amazing when everything is finally done.
