Can anyone tell me about North Lynbrook?
Specifically the area that is still part of Lynbrook SD, but north of Sunrise/Merrick/Peninsula. What is that area like? Is it a lot of families/young families? Are the elementary schools as good as Marion St. and Waverly?
Thanks!

I am not too sure about the schools exactly, but make sure you are zoned for Lynbrook schools. My friends live in North Lynbrook and are zoned for Malverne.

Yes, I checked with the county and everything. The house we are thinking of looking at is zoned for Lynbrook schools.

Re: Can anyone tell me about North Lynbrook?
I don't live in lynbrook but my stepdaughter is a recent lynbrook graduate and we were very invloved with district activities. She attended west end elementary school so if you have questions about the schools let me know. My stepdaughters mom has lived north lynbrook her entire life in the Westwood area. Its cute over there most of the houses are well kept. The taxes always seem crazy to me for the property and home size but I'm from Suffolk so I'm not accustomed to small lots.

IMO, It's pretty nice the further you get away from Merrick Rd. your kids will go to West End for elementary and North Middle school. Unless things have changed dramatically basically the only big difference I would say is that your kids will not have the influences of big money families from Hewlett harbor when you live on the north side as opposed to the south side. It is just the reality that there is a lot of money on the south side of town which can lead into competitive bday parties, bar/bat mitzvahs (they are bigger than some weddings) country club lifestyles etc.

Re: Can anyone tell me about North Lynbrook?
I live in East Rockaway, and my kids go to Waverly Park. Because the enrollment was so low after the market crashed, they have opened up Waverly to everyone. No matter where in the Lynbrook/SD 20 district you live, you may attend Waverly. They provide a bus daily for the children to get to and from the school.
Westwood is beautiful. Had we not found the perfect house on this side, we would have looked in Westwood next.

This is very true and it's even harder because the north kids first get a taste of how the "rich kids" live when they get to high school. We had a super sweet 16 for my stepdaughter three years ago, she was the only girl from the north side that had a party like that. This divided socioeconomic phenomenon is not unique to lynbrook though, my son encountered it in his high school too (connetquot) it happens all over long island.

Haha. I appreciate this. Unfortunately, my ILs live in Hewlett Harbor and that's where DH grew up - so my kids will be exposed to this from very early on. I'll have to work hard to make sure they stay grounded
I did not know that about Waverly, and that is SUCH helpful information so thank you so much!

Re: Can anyone tell me about North Lynbrook?
We lucked out on our house. The market crashed, but we took advantage and sold our home in the Malverne district for a loss, and bought a larger home in an area that we could have never afforded before.
But yes, it started in 2010-2011 year. There are many Marion and West End children now enrolled.
However, the education down to the homework, is identical to her friends in the other two schools.
