kosher deli

Hi Everyone,

I am having a birthday party for my daughter next month and am having a few people who are observant. I would like to have food for them and wondered if anyone knows of any kosher delis in the floral park or great neck area where the food is observed?. Thanks so much

Are you talking about Deli King and Dairy King? Dairy King closed a bunch of years ago, and Deli King is not kosher anymore.

There will definitely be kosher delis in great neck, but I don't know of any in particular. I would suggest that you get food from a deli that is "glatt kosher" - if your friends are super observant, then food from a deli like Ben's won't be "kosher enough" for them.

They are open on Saturdays. If you have observant people, they would not consider this place kosher.

Exactly. It depends on how observant. For example, my DH doesn't eat non-kosher meat. He eats at typical kosher delis like Ben's. However, my Orthodox friends won't even eat food from Ben's because they are open on Saturdays. I don't know specific kosher delis in Floral Park or Great Neck, but Great Neck must have some, as there is a large observant community. There are also a lot of Kosher restaurants in GN that have take out. The only one I know off the top of my head is Chosen Village (or Island?), the kosher chinese restaurant.

Re: kosher deli

Thanks for all you replied so far. I showed by friend Ben's deli and she said the food was not observed so would not be able to eat it. She does not want me to make a big deal and says not to worry but I refuse to have her at my dd's party without food for her and her family.

Here is a glatt kosher deli for you in Great Neck. Great Neck Glatt

I totally understand where you're coming from. Even though my house is mostly kosher, and if we have meat for a party, we use Ben's, we have several close friends who are strictly observant. If they are at our house, I always make sure to have food for them. I would never have a party without making sure everyone is taken care of, whether it's glatt kosher, vegetarian, etc.

Thank you so much. I will give them a call and see if we can get a platter from there. Quick question. Does the platter need to be in a separate area from the rest of the food?.

It will come sealed with something certifying that it is glatt kosher. I would leave it sealed until your friends see it, and would probably put it on a separate table so that things don't get confused.

You could always do Bagel Boss, they are kosher/dairy (thats why there is no meat options there). There is a bagel boss in the lake success shopping center. I have orthodox family and this is what I do for them when I have parties.
You could also get a platter from Shop Delight, its a glatt kosher supermarket in great neck that does deli/catering. Their prices are probably cheaper than great neck glatt.

Since when is deli king not kosher? it may not be glatt kosher so the OP's friends would not eat there, but its the same as Bens in that the meat is kosher.

ETA: just called them since we order from there and I needed verification on this, they said the meat is kosher but there is now dairy in the store

Re: kosher deli

I would also have sealed plastic utensils and sealed paper plates since they also need to be seperated from the regular stuff. Leave everything sealed for your friends to see.
