Miscarriage -- need advice
Hi gals,
Tomorrow I would have been 12 weeks.
I just returned from a month long trip to my country on Saturday & yesterday had cramps & spotting. Went to my OB and saw that the sac was empty. so even though I'm technically "12" weeks I'm really only 6 weeks or so.
I was sort of prepared bc before I left at 7 WKs we did a sono & saw there was a fetus with a faint HB but it wasn't measuring the way it should have been.
Anyway, my dr told me to go home & wait since I started spotting already. I'm still lightly cramping but no spotting & I just don't know what to do. Do I wait it out or do a D&C? I'm nervous for general anesthesia but after reading some horror stories for natural miscarriages I'm nervous about that too.
Just want to FFWD and put this behind me. hope that doesn't sound selfish.

Re: Miscarriage -- need advice
I'm so, so sorry for your loss.
I had a natural mc and if I could go back, I prob would've opted for a D&C. The reason is that you really don't know when the natural one will start. So, say you're at work, or on your way to the store and it starts...(I was on my way home from work)With the D&C, it's more planned and yes, you'll have bleeding & cramping after it, but it will be over (physically, not emotionally).
Again, I'm so sorry that you're going through this. It sucks with a capital "S". It really does.

If you can, try to wait it out for a natural MC. The D&C actually can cause some scarring and IS a surgical procedure. You really want to try to avoid that at all costs. It's going to be tough, but it'll be better. I had a natural at 7 weeks and I was at work until the pain got too much for me (only about an hour before I usually leave). I cried the entire drive home and then just laid on my comfy recliner couch in the basement the rest of the night with DH taking care of everything. (I had already been spotting for about 1 week before it really started.)

Re: Miscarriage -- need advice
I've been through this before, and it really sucks. I have a DD at home and opted for the D&C, which was not as bad as people think (just emotionally hard if anything).
Just want you to know I hope you're okay and we are here if you need to vent. This is a horrible time and knowing people are here for you will make it a little better. You will see how strong you really are.

I have done natural and also a d/c.. I would choose a d/c again... You are under anesthesia but it is quick and home the same day... I am so sorry for your loss..

Re: Miscarriage -- need advice
I have done both and IMHO I would do the D&C less traumatizing .
