. Like previously written, my kids my rules...

totally agree with this poster. I feel your letter was totally unnecessary. You should have dropped it when you were uninvited. Everyone has a difference of opinions when it comes to vaccinations. At the end it is not about vaccinations but about respecting her wishes. I'm sorry but imo you should have taken the high road. Now you come across as the person to create drama.

I agree. And to send an email on the actual day of her party was very poor timing.

I know their beliefs are based in ignorance and lack of education rather than malice. But in the end, ignorance should never be an excuse to uphold discrimination.

Discrimination? Give me a break.

I feel bad for your husband's family to have to deal with you.

I hate when people try to push their beliefs on others (on either side of this issue and for many other parenting choices). Why can't you just respect the wishes of a new mom? The fact that you sent an email is obnoxious. Leave them alone and get over yourself.

I read your update and I kind of think the email was a bit condescending to be honest...like I respect your decision but you are wrong for x,y,and z reason. If you really want to move on then you need to suck it up and actually respect their decision as I am sure you want them to respect you. IDK not an easy situation, I don't mean to be rude so sorry if it comes off that way.

I didn't send the email the day of the party. I sincerely wanted them to have a fun, stress free day.

The letter was very preachy.

Vaccination protects individuals from disease, but its impact is more far-reaching. Vaccination also benefits an entire community. When you are infected, your vaccine-primed immune system revs up to speed and stops you from becoming contagious — or at least shortens the time you are contagious — minimizing your opportunity to infect others. Likewise, if everyone around you has been vaccinated, you, by definition, are more likely to be protected from infection. And there comes a point when enough members of a community have vaccine protection that everyone in that community, including even the unvaccinated, is less likely to get sick. This phenomenon is called herd immunity.

The phenomenon can work in reverse. If enough people forgo vaccination, the entire community is put at risk. The antivaccine movement in the US is a major concern. Once sufficient numbers of children are left unvaccinated, diseases once under control may come back. Sadly, the very children who remained unvaccinated because of their parents’ opposition will be the most at risk as herd immunity begins to wane.

Food for thought.

YES! Plus, there are people (kids) out there who cannot get vaccines for medical reasons (allergies, etc) and when others just refuse to do so on other grounds, the ones who CAN'T be vaccinated are in greater danger. Chat Icon

Yes, I know. My first born was one of them. That's what led us down the path we are now on.

But you sent it before so obviously trying to make a point. You could have decided to go the party and gotten a sitter for your children. It's their kid. Their rules. Whether or not you agree. And I really think you are taking a huge stretch with "discrimination." Unfortunately, you chose not to vaccinate so you are going to have to deal with this for a long time!

I wouldn't just assume that so many people are just flat out refusing to vaccinate because of "other grounds." Every single person I know that doesn't vaccinate their children, delays shots or skips some does so because of an experience with their own family with vaccinations. When you see your child have a severe reaction the idea of having another vaccine may be even more scary that the idea of the actual disease. I don't think it's fair to just assume that the those who don't vaccinate are being selfish or negligent. As even the OP points out.

And every single person I know chooses to do so because they think it causes autism or other diseases/problems. Not everyone does it because of the reactions. Vaccinations aren't perfect. But my mother almost died as a child from rubella and measles. I would personally never put my child through the experience my mother told me about.

But I don't have any booster shots. Bring your germs but not your unvaccinated kids??? That is exactly why I am looking at this as discriminatory. Their daughter is still at risk even without my unvaxed kids there. Their child, their rules is a given...for all of us. But damn, at least make sure your rules make sense before you go forward in ignorance and hurt someone.

And my aunt DID die from a reaction to a flu shot

I am really sorry to hear this. May she RIP. I hope your daughter is spared from any further adversity from that prevnar shot too. 107 is terrifying.

Are you certain you need booster shots? (except whooping cough) when I was PG with my DS I had my blood drawn and all of my vaccine titters were all there, so I did not need to get any booster shots.

Yes. I have no titers to the VPDs anymore. I had bloodwork done when we found out my son was medically ineligible.
