?: Crafty stuff

I'm not really a crafty person at.all. but wanted to get some stuff for some of my groups at work.

What are some easy things that would be fun for adults to make.

I went into Michael's earlier for some ideas and the jewelry kits and mosaic tile kits look interesting.

My budget is probably $200 (or a lot less Chat Icon ).

The age range is around 30's-50's and a couple older and younger. They have brain damage.

My other thought was looking for a volunteer to come in from time to time like I imagine they have at the library.

TIA!

I know michaels offers classes, maybe you could get some good ideas from there. How about making picture frames ( you can buy plain wood 4x6 from ikea for very cheap). Can you do something with food? Like a cupcake decorating class? If you have the same people over a period of time scrap booking is good but that can get expensive.

Re: ?: Crafty stuff

The jewelry making is nice. I'm a librarian at a library and we often have classes like this. Btw the classes at the libraries are not run by volunteers. The library pays these people to come and run the crafting programs. The crafting people are quite expensive to hire ( at least for a library). I've been a librarian for 8 years and nobody has ever offered to do a program for free.

Some other ideas for you: anything to with eating, decoupage, mosaics. Good luck!

Re: ?: Crafty stuff

I know they're made for kids, but I always see adults wearing them too, what about Rainbow Loom. I just got one for DS and he's obsessed. Though in fairness, mom is the one doing most of the work. Chat Icon So thats why I suggest it for adults too. I'm finding myself watching YouTube videos made by kids to earn new patterns. Chat Icon

I wanted to do something crafty while I watch TV at night (and I figured it would also keep me off of my iphone) so I bought embroidery floss and started making some bracelets ala 1992. Easy and cheap!

Thanks guys. These are all great ideas.

I thought about the friendship bracelets too. I used to make them all the time as a kid.

I would check oriental trading. They have kits for all kinds of things and they are definitely inexpensive.

How about some of the wooden things and paint. I used to love to do that. Signs, birdhouses etc.

Or some ceramic? I wonder if you could talk to a ceramic place about you taking the stuff, painting it, and then bringing it back to get fired?

I am loving the rainbow loom! what about scrap books? You can do a theme and get small photo albums and have everyone bring in pics. The paper is so inexpensive and you can get little stickers and stuff

Definitely check out Oriental Trading and Michael's. My friend orders from OT for her groups- she's an activities therapist for mentally ill adults.

Re: ?: Crafty stuff

In terms off getting volunteers to help have you considered contacting a local Girl Scout Chapter? The older girls, ( maybe 9th grade and up) could qualify for community service and might be able o justify a silver award for setting up donations/volunteers to assist.
