How much of each item do you buy?

I always buy a TON of clothes for DS that he ends up either outgrowing or never wearing. I have been on a crazy shopping spree lately and trying to justify it in my own head LOL! What do you buy for the start of school of each item?

Re: How much of each item do you buy?

3-4 jeans
1 chinos (beige)
1 dress pants (grey)
3 swish type pants (2 black, one blue)
8-10 long sleeve t shirts (usually 7 are ringer and 1-2 has a collar)
2 dress shirts
1 sport jacket
1 sweatshirt
1 fleece
1 fall coat
1 rain coat
1 winter coat
1 sneakers
1 dress shoes
10 underwear
10 socks

A new pair of sneakers will likely need to be purchased in a few months.
eta: I barely get anything at the start of school. What I do is buy a lot at the end of season sales last year. I go through what he has and see what he needs.

After some experience and my kids getting older I don't go "back to school" shopping anymore and i also keep their wardrobe to a minimum because half doesnt get used and they always have their favorites. The first 3 weeks of school they are still in summer clothes. Then I take out leggings and jeans from last spring to see what fits. They wear pants with tshirts and sweatshirts only for another month. I also find that the sales are better in back to school time. Plus DD 2 has hand me downs from DD1.

I don't have a formula. I fill in as needed. I try to buy some at end of season sales for the next year. When I'm putting away one season - I'll keep what I think they can get another season out of and donate the rest, so I always have some staple items.

I do make sure they have new sneakers, school picture outfit and holiday picture outfit.

and socks - they always need socks in fall.

I actually buy at the end of the season for the following year. For example, at the end of winter, I went to Children's Place, Gap, and Old Navy. I knew that by this point in the year DS would be a size 4 and DD would be a size 5 in pants and 6 in tops. I bought a bunch of stuff on clearance. I have tops that I paid $3-4 and pants between $2.99- $8.00. Luckily they are at an age that they don't really care what they wear so I can get away with buying what is on sale. I did buy them fall jackets and new shoes.

This year I have a lot left over from last year because he's still wearing the same size.

I just bought 6 pairs of cargos from TCP.
I have 10-12 pairs of Jeans.
Maybe 20 long sleeve shirts.
10 new t-shirts.
2 suits. (holidays)
2-3 button downs. (he never wears them)
3 pairs of sneakers.

I still need active pants... I was thinking 3 pairs of sweats, 3 windpants, 3 sweatshirts, socks, underwear, and coats.

I buy tons of stuff too, my daughter has soooo many clothes, it's getting ridiculous! But I can't help myself Chat Icon

So far I've made some cute school themed outfits for back to school. I usually do like 5 of those for the entire first week. Then she wears a lot of the stuff she didn't have a chance to wear over the Summer. I've bought some fall stuff already, but didn't go overboard (yet lol), but that probably won't get worn until late October.

Re: How much of each item do you buy?

I buy way too much! I am buying some things for school now because there were some stores and websites that I like that didn't really restock last year after their back-to-school catalogs came out. I don't have a set amount but I take into account the whole idea of "will we have what we need if all the laundry doesn't get done as often as it should?" I am buying fewer sweaters and heavy shirts b/c it is always warm at my son's school. I bought more staple items like solid henleys. If DS happens to be in a classroom that's cold I am sure I will find things.
