House hunting disappointment - kinda long but advice needed
So DH and I have been married for 2 weeks! I can't believe all the crazy planning is all over. I'm definitely feeling weddingplanning wihdrawl which might be adding to my current frustrations. I am a teacher and DH is a police officer. He went back to work on Friday. He moved into my apartment after the wedding, well not really. He's been packing a bag, but has gone home (his father's house) before work everyday to shave. My house is only about 10 minutes from his home town but it's too far, where he is a firefighter and is hoping to run for chief in May. In order to do so, he needs to keep his percentage up, which I understand and support. We've been looking for houses for about a year, but have really started to be serious about it since about April/May (2-3 months before the wedding). DH says he'll live in my apartment for 3 months but then we move and rent. I think that's ridiculous and a waste of money and so does everyone else. We found a great house, great size, great price that just came on the market this week and put an offer in today but have been outbid. UGH! I know it doesn't happen over night, but I'm feeling really frustrated and anxious. Any advice or words of wisdom would really help me. I'm trying to stay optimistic but I'm finding it really hard. I keep telling myself "When one door closes, another one opens." but it's difficult to imagine it all actually happening. :o(

House hunting is extremely frustrating, and I can understand your feelings, and the obvious choice to save money during this time. However, it seems like you're DH will be semi-living apart from you until you happen to find a house, and this situation may make you run into a house that isn't perfect for you. I absolutely would pack up and move to a month to month rental until you can find a house you love and can afford. From personal experience, when DH and i were together, he broke a very expensive lease for us to move in together and be closer. We discussed the pros and cons of the move and decided it was the right thing. Today, I don't miss that amount of money, but I appreciate our relationship today for making that move.

I feel your pain. FH and I house-hunted for 2 years. We had offers fall through 3 times and were outbid twice. We finally found our home and the contract/closing process took forever. It was so frustrating but SO worth the wait.
Just try to stay optimistic and patient. Good Luck!

Its a very frustrating process but I swear it will be worth it. It will all work out. You will find your dream home. We had to fire our 1st real esate agent and we are so happy we did. We found another agent in Bethpage and she is amazing. If you want her info, send me FM
