How many classes for 4 yr old?
DS is 4 yrs old. I have him signed up right now for swim class Mondays for half hour. He loves it! I also have him signed up for soccer that will start in the Fall. Today I went to have him evaluated at a local karate school. I was thinking this would be great since he had some gross motor delays along with development, but with school, OT and Speech he's been doing great. Anyway, classes for karate are Tues and Thurs. Is all that too much for a 4 yr old? He will also be in school 5 days a week, but really only 2.5 hours.
Thanks!

Re: How many classes for 4 yr old?
DS is also 4 and will be going to school 5 days for 2.5 hours. I have him signed up for swim 1x per week and a sport class 1x per week. He also gets speech 2x per week. I feel like it's kinda pushing it. I don't want him to be overscheduled and too busy. So, personally I think adding on karate 2 days a week would be too much.

Thanks! I was thinking that. DS also gets Speech, but everyday in school. I figured I can see how he does with school, swim and soccer when he has them all then I'll see too.

Re: How many classes for 4 yr old?
Liam is 4.5 and he will be going to UPK 5 days a week, 2.5hours.
He then has soccer practice every saturday for 1 hour and then games on sundays (3 sundays each month)
Come to winter he will do lacrosse (on Saturdays) and I want to do a swim class of some sort
Right now, I think thats enough.

My DS is 4. He will have preschool 3 days a week, for 2.5 hours.
Saturdays he will have swim and soccer.
I prob wont sign him up for anything else. I think it would be too much.

Re: How many classes for 4 yr old?
Sean is @ daycare 3x a week from 6:45 - 6pm. He has swimming @ 7:30 on Thursday nights, and is starting a music lesson on Sundays @ 10 -
He wasn't interested in soccer, and is still too little for the golf programs .....I was hoping for Tball, when it starts up again
I don't think it's too much - You can tell when your kid is tired or worn out KWIM?

See how your little one does. I have 4 kids (7,5,4 and 3)and some can handle that kind of schedule and some can't. Just see how is goes and if you see a change in temperament then cut back. You don't know till you try.

Re: How many classes for 4 yr old?
So far we plan to do swim lessons only. I am torn on whether we should enroll him in more. We were planning to do kumon but don't want to overwhelm him with academics yet.
DH gets off of work around 3 everyday. He does sports with the boys everyday but we didn't sign up for anything formal yet. He played tennis in college and has started teaching 4yo DS to play. They play soccer, go swimming, ride bikes, etc in the afternoons. I also do 1-2 afternoon playdates with the boys.
Last yr, we had activities on the weekends and we missed half the classes due to weekend trips and other commitments. It is so nice not to have anything scheduled on the weekends. We can attend all the birthday parties and other weddings/events. We always do family outings whether it is by ourselves or with our friends.

Re: How many classes for 4 yr old?
I def do too much with my DD... In fact I am thinking of cutting something in Sept and I honestly feel horrible...
Right now...
Monday AM she will be in Preschool and Mixed Martial Arts/Jiujitsu PM Tuesday AM she will be in Preschool and MMA PM Wed AM SWIM and PM MMA THur AM Preschool and PM MMA Fri AM Preschool and PM Gymnastics Sat Ballet or MMA...
My husband and Brother are huge into MMA and she LOVES it... and we can go to as many classes as she wants to...
I feel really bad cutting Ballet also b/c she LOVES IT... but something I think has to give...
I think I might not do Ballet this Fall and enroll her in Jan and skip Gymnastics in Jan... IDK...
So to answer your question, I think Karate would be great for him... just b/c I think it Mixed Martial Arts/ Karate are amazing programs. and if you can fit it into your schedule I think it would be great for him!
ETA she is 3 and will be 4 in NOV...
During the summer we have the same schedule (except no preschool in AM, we go to MMA in AM, then pool and MMA again if she is up for it... thats how obsessed she is with it. lol)

Re: How many classes for 4 yr old?
I just wanted to add... IDK where you are located... but I bring her to the UFC Gym in New Hyde Park (little grapplers MMA class...)and I love it there. I like it mostly b/c they offer a class EVERYDAY for them... so if I miss one I am ok with it. If I signed her up for something that I HAD to get to that class then I might stress more about it. So we go when we can... 1x week or 7x a week. If she isn't up for it today we can go tomorrow. Ya know?
Let me know if you want anymore info.
