Calorie counters - I need more calories but without carbs

I'm pretty good with fat and protein daily but I'm usually too low on calories, about 200 to 300 per day, and too high on carbs (150 grams per day or less).

Any suggestions for things you can add to your food each day that doesn't have a lot of carbs? I'm looking for natural sources if possible too. Chat Icon

What is your diets current %?
typically the range is:
45% to 65% of calories eaten should come from carbohydrates.
20% to 35% of calories eaten should come from fat.
10% to 35% of calories eaten should come from protein.

ETA, In answer to your question: low fat dairy (Greek yogurt, cheese stick), avocado, almonds, fruit or veggies, legumes (chickpeas are my addiction)

Increase your protein and I agree no need for the carbs(carbs that come from sources other than veggies/fats)

Carbs are not the devil! They are thermogenic and will help your metabolism along! 150 grams of carbs is a perfectly reasonable amount, not too high ---choosing natural unprocessed sources is never a bad idea!

What is your overall caloric intake?

I know they're not the devil, so I don't exclude them, that's why 150 is my limit. What I didn't explain well was that I find it difficult to stay at 150 or under, while sill maintaining 1700 calories a day. So at the end of the day, I'm usually right at 150 grams of carbs, but 200 to 300 calories short. I don't have anything in the house right now to make up the difference without adding more carbs.

When I was losing a lot of weight, it didn't matter as much but now that I'm close to my goal weight, I'm finding lower carbs are one key to losing a pound a week. I do build in indulgence days but don't overdo the portions.

Got ya---and I hope i didn't make it sound like I thought you were saying carbs are evil. So many people are super afraid of them!

Can you add an extra oz or 2 of protein at other meals? What about adding in a protein shake? Egg whites are great for just protein too!
