A Third Loss
Hi Girls,
After 2 early losses last year (5.5 and 5 weeks) I went through the whole gamut of testing with LI IVF. It was found I have LPD and it was tested and corrected with Crinone.
After months of acupuncture for poor blood circulation, then ttc again while using Crinone each month, the hubby and I got a positive test on our 3rd cycle. It was a dark line at 12DPO.
Went in for Beta tests, first one was very good.. second one didn't go up by 60%, and by this point I felt horrible... loose bowels, extreme nausea and feeling very weak.. I knew something didn't feel right. My third beta, not to my shock, was dropping. This morning I went for a sonogram and they didn't see anything and it doesn't seem like it's ectopic. It wasn't with my regular RE, so I have an appointment with him and my husband in 2 weeks. This RE thinks it was just a random m/c. The only thing I'm THANKFUL for is that all 3 have been so early. I'm not even 5 weeks.
It's just frustrating. Its interesting, I went into the bathroom in a diner today and the song "TRY" by Pink (LOVE HER) was on and I was listening to the words. It gave me a sense of hope and that I just have to keep trying. I'm interested to see what my RE has to say about all this, and if the nausea/weakness/diarrhea that began shortly after I found out I was pregnant had anything to do with the loss.
So that's it. I'm sad, but I do feel better than I did yesterday. I'm so thankful for my husband and my family who are all so supportive and I'm able to share this with them.
I'm crampy now.. and I stopped the Crinone, so I'm just waiting for the bleeding to start and go through this again.
I just hope my body can handle a pregnancy, though all the tests led to yes. I am slightly underweight, and my acupuncturist (beloved Andy Kaplan!) has told me I need to gain weight. So once I'm feeling better that will be my goal, to really push myself to gain; though the RE I saw today said my weight wouldn't have to do with what's happening since I get regular periods and look healthy.
So, I'm just putting my story out there; wondering if anyone has had a similar situation or knows someone who did.
In my RE's email to me he said 30% of all m/c's are just chromosomal.. so I'm assuming he's guessing that's what it was and just bad luck.
At least I have a strong desire to move forward and have a happy outcome.
Thanks for reading all of this if you got this far!

Re: A Third Loss
So, I think they're attributing the first two early losses to a lag in my lining because of low progesterone and this one now to a chromosomal abnormality. Ugh.

A Third Loss
It's so hard to go through this, I just had my second early MC and will be going to LI/IVF in October when my insurance kicks in (DH just started a new job). Recurrent MC's actually run in my family, I've since discovered, one aunt had FIVE miscarriages before having her two daughters (my awesome and amazing cousins). There's DEF lots of hope to be had!!!
I am so sorry that you're going through this!

A Third Loss
I've alo had 3 losses at LIIVF. I just switched drs and did a whole bunch of testing. The 2 d&cs I had came back genetically normal so we don't know why it's happening. It sucks. So sorry this I happening to you. Lots of hugs and wishes for your sticky bean soon.

i would consider seeing an RE that can do more comprehensive testing. it doesnt sound like they are at all confident in their dx of your losses and you really need a good treatment plan (not just progesterone) to know you did all you could to avoid future losses. dr B deals with recurrent loss and so does SIRM in NYC. i would see either of these REs - they are known to look at causes of MC differently than other doctors and they really are the best at getting you and keeping you pregnant with the right protocols. sorry you are going through this and good luck!

I have heard about Dr. Braverman and was thinking about possibly switching, but I would hate to go through the whole gamut of testing that I have already been through. Do you know if his office would use on my testing that was done at Long Island IVF? Also, I do not believe that he is covered by my insurance… Thanks in advance!

Re: A Third Loss
I'm so sorry about your loss. I also had 3 losses. My first was before I went to an RE; it was a blighted ovum and they didn't tell me the cause. I went to an RE and also found I have a LPD which we treated with crinone. I had a chemical on that and after we did all the RPL testing. Nothing came back from that but MTHFR, and it's the least severe form. We kept trying and got pregnant in January of 2013. My first beta was good, then they didn't quite double, like yours. My 5 week sono was good, but at 6 we saw the embryo and sac were not growing like they should. Eventually at 8 weeks I mc and had a d&c. They found it was caused by a chromosomal abnormality.
I asked my RE what our options were. He said we're healthy and just seemed to be having really bad luck. If we wanted to be aggressive, we could do IVF with PGD to ensure the best quality embryo. We were considering that and were going to do it in the summer, but decided to just try for a few more months. I changed my diet. I cut out sugar and gluten. I did fertility yoga every day. I went to acupuncture every week to destress. I don't know if any of this made a difference, but we got pregnant in June. I am 12 weeks now so it still is early, but I've had a sono every week and everything looks perfect. The only thing was that my progesterone was still super low, so we added PIO (shots) to the crinone. Also, my weight is on the low side (I weighed 106 before I got pregnant) so I don't feel that contributes to losses unless you're REALLY underweight. ) I know this is a long story, but I just want to encourage you to hang in there. I know it's tough. Sending hugs your way and I hope you get your rainbow baby soon.

Yes I remember emailing with you as we were in similar situations! I'm so glad to hear your pregnancy is going well and I wish you the best of luck.
Wow so you cut out sugar and gluten, huh? That doesn't sound like an easy task.
I decided to go for a second opinion to Dr. Braverman for maybe some more in depth testing, I know he specializes in immune testing. I had a bad reaction to this 3rd pregnancy with nausea, diarrhea, and weakness.
I also have the fertility yoga, go for acupuncture, and am underweight but feel good and get regular periods.. but once I feel better I'm going to make a big effort to eat things that will make me gain a few pounds. My parents are very concerned with my weight as is my acupuncturist.
Anyway, it's nice to hear that things went well for you after 3 losses; and it could be that nothing conclusive will surface with Braverman either, but at least I've exhausted all avenues before I try to get pregnant again. It just seems weird that my body is so quick to reject pregnancy within a week's time.

I still ate a lot of food I love, i just used almond flour and coconut flour instead of anything processed. I used honey as a sweetener. Good luck and I hope Braverman can give you some more answers.

I have been doing research about a gluten allergy and I am going to try to do gluten free.

he takes out of network only i believe. honestly he is worth it if you can make it work. i believe SIRM does take insurance.
Dr. B will run his own bloodwork. so yes you will have to repeat some things but his panels are completely unique and customized to him so while some things will technically get retested, it will be at the same time that they run all the other tests. i can guarantee you that his panel will be a million percent more comprehensive than LI IVF. there is absolutely 0 comparison. so being that you have had three losses i would think you would want to cover all bases. a few extra tubes of blood won't matter much in the scheme of things. as far as other testing that you have done outside of bloodwork - he might be able to use that, i think it depends on your specific case. good luck!!

Now that I'm going to switch RE's I do definitely feel hopeful especially after reading success stories on here. There's no comparison to how I felt a few days ago compared with now.

Re: A Third Loss
My beta went from 300s a few days ago to 600s today. What is going on?! I just want to miscarry and move forward already. I'm going for repeat blood and a sono tomorrow, and I emailed Kreiner to ask if this could be possible ectopic. Anyone experience fluctuating betas period to miscarriage? My progesterone dropped as I stopped the crinone- I wonder of this will allow the bleeding to begin, then my betas will start dropping??
Still feel very nauseous- but did make a consult appointment with Dr Braverman!

did the beta drop first before rising? thats a sign of ectopic. with beta #s like that chances are extremely low that you will see anything on sono ectopic or not. also stopping crinone wont change your blood progesterone. vaginal progesterone supplements bring progesterone to the source its needed but they really dont have much effect on your blood progesterone levels. good luck!!

Yes they dropped then doubled. Ugh. Well if Kreiner wants to do a sono this morning I'll do it since we have to stay on top if this. I'm also doing repeat blood. He told me it may take a few days to be able to tell if its ectopic. I'm trying to not get worked up and just take things as they come and happen- this is out of my hands so I just need to accept it and be strong.
