Girl Scouts?

How did you find out about a nearby Girl Scout troop for your DD? I live in NJ and don't know many people in the neighborhood and am desperately trying to find a troop for DD. I have found some email addresses online and I got no responses back, called a girl scout center and no phone call back. I'm really getting annoyed why is it so difficult. DD keeps asking when can she join. If she didn't want to join so bad I would have given up at this point. Would the schools know? Anyone have any suggestions? I even found a post of the local Patch website asking for volunteers to lead troops and I emailed them even offering to volunteer and no response.

On Long Island you have to through the Girl Scout council and get your daughter placed on a waiting list. When troops are formed, they pull from the list. You can also register your daughter with the council, and do the activities on your own if there is not a troop nearby. This means you can participate in the council wide events, and do the patches, etc. on your own (you would just buy them from the GS Store).

IME they are beyond slow at handling anything to be honest! At least here!

Thanks, I looked up the council by us and it looks like that's who I called the other day. She really wants to join a troop and not do it on her own. Hopefully they respond if not i'll try calling them again.
