Re: Just got a call from my DD's science teacher
Thanks everyone, I appreciate all your replies. DH spoke to DD too last night and she said the same thing to me she told me earlier, that she was asking questions. I think she just got excited with her first science lesson and couldn't stop herself . Not to say that the teacher is wrong or anything or that this is an excuse for my DD to talk during class. If she talks or disrupts the classroom she should absolutely get punished and I should absolutely be notified . The only thing is now this morning she woke up and told me she doesn't like science any more and doesn't want to go to school on days she has science. When I told her she has no choice and has to go back on Mon and she can't let one bad day ruin her school year she broke down and started crying hysterically It's like dealing with a teenager, I swear! I have a feeling this is going to be a fun school year

I would set up a meeting with the science teacher and your daughter. It sounds like the teacher needs to understand your daughter's learning style, and your daughter needs to see the teacher as an ally. Maybe if you all sit down together, your daughter will feel better about the rest of the year. I would hate her to turn against science because on this experience.

Re: Just got a call from my DD's science teacher
Kudos to the teacher for calling. Honestly, it must have been very disruptive if she sent dc back 4 times. I teach first grade and I always get concerned about calling parents about behavior. Like its always turned around on the teacher instead of the child's behavior. As a teacher and a mom, I wouldn't be upset with the teacher for calling but I would've talking to my dc about her behavior.

Re: Just got a call from my DD's science teacher
Schools are putting all sorts of odd new rules in for contacting parents. This might be what the school is requiring now.

We have to remember that there ARE teachers out there that have zero patience with children, and not saying this teacher is one of them, but I would have a conversation with this teacher to get the exact details of what happened. Especially since your daughter said she was asking the teacher questions, not talking to other children. Also, if she is having no issues in her regular classroom with talking, etc.......
