For this pregnsncy alone, I endured 10 weeks of injecting a long 18 gauge needle in my ass muscle filled with oil that ultimately caused me to get gigantic uncomfortable welts and bruises for weeks.

For my entire pregnancy I used a daily injectable blood thinner right in my stomach that burned like a mofo each time and left my belly so bruised it was multicolored.

Right now I have miserable cold with a throat the feels like it was scraped against a cement floor. I would love for nothing more than to take a long glorious nap- but I can't because my baby's needs come first.

Consider that glucose test a crash course in the rest of your life. Good luck!

I don't think this is called for. You do not know my whole story so please do not judge.

Declining the Glucose Test?

I think it would be downright neglectful to refuse the glucose test. You got lucky the first time around, and your post comes off as very selfish. It's very important for the health of the baby to treat GD properly, who cares about a minor inconvenience...

Re: Declining the Glucose Test?

I'm really surprised and taken aback by everyone's reaction to this post.

As if I said I smoke and binge drink while pregnant. :P

I did alot of studying on this test and I'm not part of a high risk group for GD or I won't have thought about declining the test.

Thanks to everyone for *judging* now excuse me while I move on to another board where I can get real support.

You had it once, you're at risk to not only have it again but to develop it later in life. Did you read that fact?

Declining the Glucose Test?

Wow some of you are real pieces of work.

I did decline mine because of hyper emesis. After 3 attempts I was done. YOU can decide what tests you want done. I declined my 3hr glucose, my 16wk blood work, and elective ultrasounds. I am healthy, under 35, and none of the ultra sounds I did have showed anything to be concerned about. Regardless ending the pregnancy was never an option so why go through the worry? Eat a balanced diet, exercise and forget this obnoxious women. You will be fine.

FTR you do NOT have to do every test, or every procedure. It is called INFORMED consent for a reason and you have the right to decline a procedure or test with NO reprocutions. I did have to do 2wks of checks to make sure I was ok and I did that when I remembered.

The difference is you didnt turn them down because they inconvenienced you, you tried 3x and got sick and physically couldnt do it again. That's much different.

I am not in a high risk group for GD either and I failed miserably.

If you decline the test,I hope you are going to test your sugar 4x a day and follow the diet.

The poster consistently posted that things about pregnancy "inconvenienced" her. MF was just calling her out on it.

I highly doubt any OB would be ok with it. These tests are in place for a reason, to protect you and your child.

It's an hour of your time. It seems pretty negligent to decline any test because of inconvenience.

I can relate to that. 10 Week PIO injections to find out i also needed daily injections for 46 weeks and on top of that daily finger pricks for GD.
Its is a pain to drink that liquid but really I think once you get to that point we will do whats right for the baby.

Declining the Glucose Test?

Totally crashing, and not pregnant.. Had to voice my opinion.. What you are missing in the BIG picture is IF you refuse and DONT follow an appropriate form of the ADA diet is that you may NEVER get to meet that baby! One major malady with an uncontrolled/ us diagnosed GDM is fetal death.. Those big babies are common, but treatable. You can't treat an IUFD. Not trying to be dramatic or harsh, but this the truth. If you choose not to test, you owe that child a chance, follow a diet. As the OP wrote, when you look at the big picture this is just a test for motherhood..

Declining the Glucose Test?

this isnt going to be the popular answer but i do think the ladies are being super harsh and totally reading into your comments a little much. it seems like you dont want to do it because you did it once before and lucky enough your baby was unaffected. not cause you dont want to be inconvenienced by it... ladies love their drama Chat Icon

no matter what you go through to get or stay pregnant its your choice. women have been birthing for centuries without a glucose test - and yes there are less complications now on that front - but there are tons of other complications (esp with deliveries and csections) that only exist now because pregnancy and birth are an industry and treated as a disease and not a natural part of life. i am in the camp that our generation has massive anxiety problems because we overthink and overtreat everything and don't rely on nature to do what its been doing for centuries. we are still here aren't we - we must be doing something right?! and this is coming from someone who had to shoot up her whole pregnancy and wouldnt even have my kid if not for IVF and advanced medical technology...

having said that if you had GD in the past you should know the risks involved if you do have GD. if you dont - you really need to educate yourself in order to really make the best decision for you and your baby. im not gonna lecture you on what those risks are - and you shouldn't trust a bunch of girls on a website to do that either. this is a situation where you really need to trust your doctor, sit down with he/she and discuss the true pros and cons for YOUR specific situation. maybe its better for YOU to modify your diet a bit and not test. you wont know until you have that conversation - but its a conversation you def should have to be fully educated on your specific situation.

(i will manually remove myself from my soapbox now) Chat Icon Chat Icon

Can't have a lollipop. I have GD Chat Icon

If the OP stated that they had done research and felt certain test were not necessary that's one thing. But that wasn't the case.

My comment was based on not wanting to prick her finger 4 times a day. Which is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo hard Chat Icon Chat Icon
