6w pg, going for blood work
I have a healthy little boy who's 2.5 yo. That was my first pregnancy. I had no trouble getting pg, staying pg and any trouble with him what so ever.
We started trying for #2 earlier this year and, once again, the first month I got pg. I thought everything was fine but I did notice I wasn't having any pg symptoms like I had the first time around. Nothing. I felt totally normal. In fact, most days I forgot I was pg.
We went to the doctor for my first appointment and he saw things weren't right. I had a miscarriage at 8 weeks on Father's Day. It was sad but we got over it pretty quickly b/c it happened so early and, honestly, it never seemed "real", if that makes any sense.
My doctor said to wait 2 full, regular period cycles to start trying again. We did and I got pg right away. Yeah! My doctor said it was too early to come in for a sonogram but b/c of the miscarriage wants to do blood work. I'm going tonight and I'm excited but nervous.
I know nothing about this. I don't know what they are looking for, what's a good outcome, how long it takes to get results.
Any advice, thoughts would help ease my mind. Thanks so much!

They're just checking to make sure your HCG levels are doubling. It's so hard but at this point you're going to be nervous. They'll likely do 2 sets of BW, one today and another in 2 days - HCG should double every 2 days.
The good thing to remember is that MC is so unbelievably common and that MOST women who have 1 MC go on to have perfectly healthy and uneventful pregnancies the second time around. Only about 2-3 % of couples (according to research) have 2 or more consecutive miscarriages.

Re: 6w pg, going for blood work
i had to go for bloodwork, as the pp mentioned they will test your beta and progesterone they will want you to come back in 48 hours to re-test and make sure the betas are doubling. if not that can be a sign of a problem. they also want your progesterone to be at a certain level and if its not they may start you on suppositories
good luck edit - you should have your results the next day but until you go for the second set of bloodwork the results wont mean that much

Re: 6w pg, going for blood work
Thanks for the advice. I went last night and the nurse said they were only drawing one set of blood. The tests would tell them how far along I was and if everything was going well. I should hear by Friday. Thanks again.

Just me (because I'm paranoid) I would DEFINITELY ask for a second set of BW - I've also never heard of a doctor only doing a single draw of blood in these situations (not on these boards and not in real life). I would want to have that second BW done, for sure.

ITA. Betas vary so much that the second one is more telling than the first. Best of luck!

Re: 6w pg, going for blood work
I wanted to give an update. My doctor's nurse called today and said everything looked good. My progesterone was at 19 which she said was good and it looked like I was in my 5th week. She scheduled me to come in for an exam in 2 weeks. I've also been getting waves of nausea which I'm taking as a healthy sign. I was so sick withmy son.
Thanks for all the concern. GL to all!
