Xpost from parenting: Nassau University Medical Center?
I put up this same post on parenting.
Has anyone delivered at NUMC or had any experiences there? I want to have a waterbirth and they are the only hospital on Long Island to do one. My OB gave me the option of a waterbirth. I am just looking to gather some information, good and bad. Please FM if it is something you are not comfortable posting.
TIA

I am delivering there, in the waterbirth room. I am not having a waterbirth but my midwife uses that room anyway. I have seen it and it is beautiful. Quilted bed, low lights, jacuzzi and really big. It is quite wonderful. I will use the tub to labor but, probably not for birthing.
I will tell you that my midwife is sponsering a "birth wisdom circle" on Waterbirths tomorrow night. It is basically women sharing thier experiences and stories. I am sure some of them will have homebirth stories but, some will be from NUMC as well. I am pretty sure it is open to everyone and that I am going to go and just hear them out. I am curious about it. If you want I can ask Susan if it is open to anyone.

"A Baby Story" shows water births taking place at NUMC all the time. It looks like a pretty good set up judging from what I have seen on the show.

I think I am. I am nervous to go alone since my Mom may not be able to come with me. But, if you're going too then maybe I will go.

Unless something unforseen happens, i will be there. Nothing to be nervous about, have you been to them before? Everyone is friendly and a lot of women come by themselves. I am planning on being there. You should go!

Re: Xpost from parenting: Nassau University Medical Center?
I am SOO insecure about doing things by myself. I went to the one on C-sections but I took my Mom with me
So I think I will suck it up and be a big girl and go to this one! Susan was encouraging me to go at my appointment today.. although she has a Mom who is very overdue and she is hoping she goes into labor soon. So that Mom's sake I hope Susan can't make it because she is helping that lady give birth!
ETA: Erin, from the Bradely classes will be there to talk about her water birth last week. So we will get a chance to meet her!

Come, come! It will fun! I put up a picture of myself in my album (at least temporarily) so you can recognize me. It will be great to meet Erin too! I went to the c-section one as well.

I know I am late to this conversation, but if you did deliver at NUMC, can you recommend a female doctor who delivers there? Thanks!

I did deliver there and it was great! Two years ago today, actually. :) I cannot recommend a female doctor, but I delivered with Dale Cook, who is a female midwife and she was fantastic.
