Not Pregnant but have a ?re:Platelet Count
My cousin is 34 weeks pregnant and her platelet count is low they want to admit her in the hospital is this to induce labor or try to get her count up? what can they do to raise her platelet count?

I would think the first course of treatment would be to put her on steroids, and schedule an induction for a safe time when they go up. If steroid don't work, they can do IVIG. Worst case scenario is getting put under for a c-section and give platelets via transfusion.
Edited because I misread the first time. Not sure why she'd be going into the hospital at 34w. Depending on the cause of her low platelets, they could be giving her platelets via IV, or giving her IVIG, but I've always had that at my hematologist.

it depends on the cause of low platelets. is it an issue she has had before or is it new? if its new and accompanied by other symptoms it could be pre-eclampsia/HELLP which the only "cure" is delivery.
