Anyone have any info on the new super wal mart
There is a super wal mart opening soon in riverhead. Does anyone know how this will differ from a regular wal mart? I've heard super wal marts in other states are open 24 hrs - wondering if that's the case here. Are there any other super wal marts on LI?

Anyone have any info on the new super wal mart
Super walmarts have a full service grocery store in them. Not just some frozen foods and such, they have meat, produce, a bakery, etc as well as everything else a regular walmart has.

These are big up by where my parents and my sister live.
It's like the other poster described.
So you can go people watching after midnight if the desire strikes you.
IMO, it's still Wal-Mart though and the grocery store is not as nice as regular grocery stores.
Whenever I have gone, I have found their produce section especially to be really gross---most of the food has been rotting and swarming with fruit flies.

Re: Anyone have any info on the new super wal mart
I've been to a bunch of them in Florida. A lot more food than the regular Walmarts. Is the Riverhead one becoming a Super Walmart? I thought it was supposed to but they changed it to a regular one.

Anyone have any info on the new super wal mart
I was in one on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi shortly after Katrina. It was humongous and had more stuff in it than I could imagine from food to wood flooring.

Re: Anyone have any info on the new super wal mart
Honestly I would really reconsider shopping at Walmart. Their prices are low because they pay their employees so little. Many of their full time employees qualify for food stamps while the owners of the company are some of the richest people in America. Companies like Costco pay a decent wage (above minimum) and the CEO takes home a much more reasonable salary.

The protesters are out there every day with the RAT where Costco is being built protesting the non-union labor

Honestly, this is A LOT of places. I used to work in home care and really felt for the many of the aides who were totally being exploited.
Without a lot of education though (or U.S. education), being a different race, single parent, etc.........these are sadly often the only types of jobs they can find.
I also believe that many of them become "live ins" because they can't afford to pay rent here in NY. On a rare day off, they will couch surf.

The one in Levittown is pretty gross. The grocery is fine, but we repeatedly saw SO many expired products in the perishables (yogurt, meat, coldcuts) that we stopped going.

I spoke to an employee and the said not till Jan. They already have Christmas displays up at the "old" store, so it's not worthwile to try to set up the new one before the holiday.

There prices are also low because they set the prices of goods and demand suppliers come in at that price or they won't carry the product.
There is a book, the Walmart economy, that's very eye opening.
I do admit though that I shop there - moreso when I am out of state since those stores tend to be nicer than the ones in the tri-state area.

I refuse to shop at Walmart for those reasons.
