Re: Anyone's DC not like to go to the bathroom at school?
DS was the same way. When he was in K and I picked him up from school and brought him home, he went running every day to use the bathroom. I think maybe it was that he didn't know how to zipper up or bottom his pants. I used to go to school for lunch (once or twice a week) and took him to the bathroom then, and I bought him more pants with elastics and no zipper. I didn't do anything else. Now he is on 3rd grade and he feels more comfortable going to the bathroom at school.

My DD will do #1 but not #2 @ school. She prefers doing #2 @ home.

Re: Anyone's DC not like to go to the bathroom at school?
My DD refused to go at all at school. In Pre-K she'd hold it in (go b4/after); then in K, even w/ a bathroom in the class she did not like to ask the teacher to go; so she would hold it.
We at one point bribed her & she started peeing during lunch (b/c she could go w/ a friend & didn't have to "draw attention to herself in the classroom").
I do know, however, the bathroom in their class was a disaster; the boys would pee all over & the aides would tell the girls to use the one in the hall; so perhaps it is filthy?
What do you think the reason is? Having to ask? Fear of going? Strange bathroom? Has he had an issue b4?

Re: Anyone's DC not like to go to the bathroom at school?
My son was like this in Kindergarten. I think it was a combo of a lot of things...being shy to just get up and go was a big one. I had a long talk with him (not healthy and other things that I felt would hit home with him) and made a huge deal out of it when he finally did do it at school. After a while I learned a huge part of it was he was scared to go because if there was a fire drill he was afraid of being left behind. I feel so bad. He is in third grade and still so scared of this. Even this year in he isn't going at only does at lunch time (not sure why this makes him more comfy than during class time).

My son is older, but really doesn't like using the bathroom at school. His reason is because other people are in there. I told him to use the stall, but he still doesn't like that. He is getting better though. The school in the past offered to let him use the bathroom in the nurse's office. If it's continuing to be a problem, and getting to the point of a health issue arising, I would ask if he can use the nurse's.

I never went to the bathroom at school. My kids go to the same schools now that I did and I couldn't tell you where the bathrooms are even located lol.

My DD is in Kindergarten and tell me the bathroom in her class is gross and she saw a bug in there so she won't go. Refuses to. I don't blame her!!

Re: Anyone's DC not like to go to the bathroom at school?
Thanks for the replies everyone. DS has always been weird about going poop other places besides our house but he is usually OK with peeing. He does have one in his K classroom but is super shy and I think this has a lot to do with it. I do agree it probably is gross (I'm a teacher and have seen the nastiness lol) Should I mention it to his teacher? I'm sure she doesn't notice.
