marathon taper question... spinoff

i just read the question about tapering before a marathon.

i'm running the philly marathon (11-17-13). i was planning my last long run, this saturday. this would give me 15 days to rest and taper off.

from all i've read, 18-14 days before the race should be your last run.

i understand that the OP of that thread stated she has been sick... and i can see how advise to her would be to do all she can to be healthy (which means rest).

but would you recommend the same for me?

This is such a great question and I'm curious to know the answer. From most things I'm reading they are recommending 3 weeks rest. Tapering is a very important element of the race.

I wanted to try to fit in one more long run (since I never made it to 20 miles). I'm no longer sick. Thankfully it was a 24 hour thing. I ran an easy 5 yesterday.

But the more I read I see why rest is so important. So I'm thinking give yourself 3 weeks especially if you got 20 miles in. You don't want to risk injury by overtraining.

Good luck!!!
