what are your thoughts on this name?
I think Theodore is a great idea, and you can call him dory from birth, and maybe he gets called another nickname outside the home down the road.

I like the Theodore name as well. That way when he gets older he can choose what he wants people to call him. You can though when you send him to school let them know to call him Dory. My nephew is a John and we all call him Jack (I still don't get how that is a nickname for John) and everyone at school including his teachers call him Jack.

I think since you and your husband like the name and it has a special meaning to you and your family then you should name him Dory. There are plenty of kids today with different names.

Re: what are your thoughts on this name?
I know a male lawyer with the name Dory.
I like the name a lot! I love that it honors your grandfather! I also like Isadore.
I was worried about what we named DD b/c it's not common and it's similar to another family members name (not the one we named for) but everyone seemed to love it b/c they knew how much the person meant to me and how I wanted to honor them.
Go with your gut. No matter what, your family will love the child whatever name you decide!

I know one too, I wonder if its the same person, so that was my first thought. Also, I really love theodore, and he can have to option to use teddy.

I actually had an Uncle Dori (male) and he named his daughter after him which was Dorianne (they called her Dori too)

Theodore and call him Dory? Just Dory is too feminine for my taste, sorry

I know a Dorit (pronounced Dori). She's a girl and Israeli so that's what I think of.

Very very feminine.
This. Dory sounds very girly. I'm just picturing him working in a business setting one day and introducing himself as Dory. I can't see it. Sorry
I agree to name him Isadore and just tell everyone hes a Dory.
I immediately thought of a woman Dori that I work with but also I work with a Leslie and a Tracy and both of them are men. Doesnt matter if you like it then use it.
I like Fiona but everyone says Shrek so you cant win,

Re: what are your thoughts on this name?
I think Dory is a cute nickname, but I'd want my son to have a more formal, masculine name (more for when he's older). My preference is Dorian, but I also like Isadore.
I know it sucks when people don't love the name you choose for your child. I don't think people generally love the name I gave my DD (it's also after a family member) and certainly nobody pronounces it right, but now that she's here and has taken ownership of the name, it's a million times more beautiful than I even thought it was. I am SO grateful she has a name nobody else in her class will ever have and a name that means a lot to me. If I chose to go with my second choice name (my husband's first choice), I would have regretted it.

Definitely not a fan. I know two girls named Dorie and definitely think of it as a name for a girl.

what are your thoughts on this name?
I think it's a fine name for a young man. Honestly, I think the fact that you get to tell him he's named after a very special part of your family makes it much more special than worrying about an animated fish that everyone will forget about 5 years from now. I am a firm believer in family names that have a history and meaning behind it. We live in a culture that is afraid of what others think--- what the name means and what's in yours and your husbands heart is what is meant for this little boy!

Re: what are your thoughts on this name?
Everyone has an opinion on ANY name that they hear. I think that you should go with Dory. Try not to let others change your mind. Your child will probably turn out to be a confident person who is not defined by what others think and feel. His name will be accepted by his friends and teachers and I'm sure everyone will grow to like it!

Re: what are your thoughts on this name?
I'm crashing on this. My daughter has a VERY unique (and equally meaningful) name, and we didn't tell anyone her name before she was born. And guess what? Her name totally fits her.
If you like Dory, people will either love it or they'll learn to love it. Go for it, it sounds perfect .

Re: what are your thoughts on this name?
Personally not a fan because I think it sounds like a nickname. If it were my child, I'd either use Dory as a middle name or go with a longer, more formal name (Dorian, Isadore, Theodore) for the birth certificate and call him what I wanted.
But. It's not my child. If you love it, use it, and the rest of the world will adapt.
