Picking out a Hospital
I am currently looking into hospitals for delivery. I live in the city but I wanted to know what everyone looked for when picking out a hospital.
What made you choose your hospital? What should I look out for?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you

Picking out a Hospital
My main concern was that the hospital was a regional perinatal center. I want to deliver at a hospital that has the ability to provide the most advanced care to my baby if the need arrises. I could not imagine having my newborn sent to another hospital for care if necessary. I also looked into the number of births and type of birth (vaginal vs c-section) at the hospital annually.

Picking out a Hospital
I choose a dr. To me that is way more important. A dr you trust and are comfortable with is more important than a hospital.

This I've had my doctor for years and I really like her. She's affiliated with one hospital so that was it - no decision to make

Re: Picking out a Hospital
My top concerns were that it was not a Catholic Hospital and private rooms were a must.

same. I wanted a hospital where it would be easy to park too (living in the city, this is always a priority for me)

I live in the city as well and I was looking into Lenox Hill Hospital. What are your thoughts on this hospital?

Same. Though, I was happy that my dr delivers at LIJ just because it has a great NICU. Hopefully we will never need it, but it's good that it's there. I still picked a Dr first.

Picking out a Hospital
I delivered 5 weeks ago at Lenox Hill. Had a great experience. We had to pay out of pocket for a private room but in the next few months private rooms will be standard. Valet parking is $35 for 24 hours. We were there 32 hrs and they charged us the same $35. If you have any questions feel free to pm me.

Picking out a Hospital
I live in lower Westchester and chose a city hospital as I work in the city. So I had to make sure it will be easy to get to if I am in labor, easy to get for apt's (a bit tricky with this, but not that big of a deal). Also it was very important to choose a hospital with great reputation and great team of Dr's. I went for now with NYU (I also used their fertility center so the choice was a bit easier for this).

Picking out a Hospital
I went with whatever hospital my OB was affiliated with so didn't have much choice, since it's only one hospital (NY Presbytertian, Cornell). I had my son there almost 3 years ago and was very happy there. No pressure to do anything I didn't want to do.

Re: Picking out a Hospital
I chose a new OB this time partially because I did not like the last hospital. They are a great practice so I guess my decision was based on OB and hospital affiliation.

Re: Picking out a Hospital
Depending on how early you are in your pregnancy, you can take some time and go on maternity tours at different hospitals to get a feel for what each offers and how they differ. If you gravitate towards one hospital, then look for a doctor or practice that fits your philosophies and delivers at that hospital.
Tours are usually not too long and should be free

Picking out a Hospital
I'm delivering at Columbia. For me it was about having a top notch facility with a fantastic NICU if the need arises.

Re: Picking out a Hospital
I chose based on c-section and episiotomy rates, natural-birth friendliness, and the option of water birth.
It was really important to me that the hospital would support natural birth, including allowing intermittent monitoring.
