Throwing a Dry Party
I am throwing a luncheon for my parents early next year. I want to invite about 40 people which will include family & close friends. It will be at one of their favorite restaurants. Right now, it will be juice, soda, coffee & tea only. If I add alcohol to the package, I would have to cut down on the number of people (based on what I can afford). Do you think people will be okay with no alcohol? It's a Sunday lunch...

Can you just run a tab if anyone wants to order alcohol? That's what I usually do. Because of the time, unless you have some serious drinkers in your group, you probably won't have too many people order drinks.

Not in my family. People enjoy a cocktail with brunch. You can have them pay for themselves, while I dont agree with that, id rather that than nothing..

Some places will also work with you and it's not a whole lot more.
We had an event at Sergios in Massapequa and we opted for carafes of white and red wine on each table and pitchers of beer.
The event started at noon and not much alcohol went, honestly.
This is JMO but I feel a lot of people look for it, especially at a restaurant. Not that they are getting shitfaced, but if they are out with friends and family socializing, you KWIM.....
Another lady on here mentioned doing an alcoholic punch and I've heard of a signature cocktail, as well to cut costs.
If you are that concerned about an extra 100 bucks or so (in total, not per person), maybe you need to research a different venue or not have a party at a restaurant.
Again, JMO.

ITA with the above suggestions. I know my family and myself for that matter, would expect to get a glass of wine at a lunch event in a restaurant. JMO.

I would never here the end of it in my family if there was no alcohol at a party. 
I think *most* people expect at least wine/beer.........even for a Sunday luncheon. People will survive without it but I'm sure many will be looking for it. I would try and figure out a way to include it in the party if you can.

I would suggest seeing if the place with do carafes of wine or wine by the bottle as you go this way you are paying for what is being drank.
Honestly my parents do not drink and their friends/family dont either--maybe one glass of wine--so for them I would run a tab bc I know it would never be worth it to pay per person.

This. I don't think you need to go crazy, but I think most people will expect something. A tab is another good idea.

I'd be walking out to look for a nearby bar to grab a cocktail mid party!

I like the idea of carafes so at least there is an option, the crowd is not really drinkers, but I was worried about having nothing. Thanks for the suggestions! I will look into it

I don't think an adult party should be completely alcohol free - so I'd do SOMETHING - beer & wine, or punch, or mimosas/bloody marys if it's brunch -

If it was between alcohol or the people I knew my parents would want to celebrate with I would choose the people. Alcohol is nice at a party, but if it's that important they can buy it. I wouldn't sacrifice the company for some wine.

For my DS' baptism I had carafes of wine on the table and told the restaurant to run a tab if anyone ordered anything additional. I had 75 people and it would have been an additional $10 pp to have liquor. In the end my bar tab was under $150 (mainly beer and two extra caraffes of wine)

I would not do a dry party. You can do beer wine soda or just run a tab. Usually running a tab is cheeper

Parties on DH's side of things are always dry due to their religion. It's not the worst thing in the world...I mean, it's only a few hours, but...we sometimes bring our own mini bottles or flasks to not be bored at some of the parties and weddings. 
As others have suggested, maybe see if you can run a tab or do carafes of wine.
