Christmas Spending with at least 2 DC
Just curious, how do yu plan your holiday purchasing when you have multiple kids?
My DSs are 6 and 2. DS1 wants $$ items, and honestly is just so easy to buy for its silly! I could spend $1000 on him in one trip without any issues! LOL
DS2 has everything a 2yo could want because his older brother was spoiled! So this year I am having isssues with both # of pkgs and right now we have spent alot more on older DS.
So last year I didnt pay attention to the dollar amount I spent on each but I did make sure they had the same # of packages.
I was talking to a friend and she makes sure she spends the same dollar amount which means her older child tends to get less packages bc he wants more pricy items.
So I am wondering what is the norm.....

Christmas Spending with at least 2 DC
I only have one DS but I have multiple siblings that are significantly younger than me. I have always tried to keep the total $ spent the same on each child, but in my experience the kids don't really notice that. They DO notice when one gets more gifts than the other though! When I do have another DC, I will be more inclined to keep the total number of gifts even. Ideally, I would like to spend around the same amount on each child as well but I know that could fluctuate form year to year. A 2 year olds toys are much cheaper than a 13 yr olds video games, for example.

Re: Christmas Spending with at least 2 DC
Our kids are 1.5 years apart, so DD has everything & then some.
We minimize on spending for Xmas. Both get about $50-$60 worth of presents. All from Santa.
1 big gift and some accessories.
DD is getting little mermaid: a doll, Blu ray & a dress up costume.
DS is getting dinosaurs: a "big" dino, Blu ray & small dinos to play with.

Re: Christmas Spending with at least 2 DC
This year DS#1 is getting way more in both $ and number - because he's 4 and DS#2 is 4 months - he won't care. But, I think as they get a ltitle older, we'll try to keep amount/size of pile similar. My parents always did that (wrapping socks up to balance it out ) because we had no idea of monetary value - we just knew "Hey..he's got more than me!!"

Re: Christmas Spending with at least 2 DC
my kids are so little, it doesn't matter. DD will only be 11 months so she won't even know but when they are older, # of packages is more important I think!
once they are way older and understand some items are more expensive than others, it will be about $$ not ##

Re: Christmas Spending with at least 2 DC
the younger they are, i think its the amount of packages that matter.
when they get older, much older, i think it is more about the monetary value.
i'd try to be even in every aspect no matter what but i know its hard and not always possible.

Re: Christmas Spending with at least 2 DC
They're both boys and only 2 years apart so they like a lot of the same toys. I try to keep the budget AND # of gifts fairly equal. They're going to share everything anyway - I do not buy doubles of toys -

Re: Christmas Spending with at least 2 DC
They each get one gift from Santa and one from us. It doesn't matter to me if I spent the same amount on them. I won't start thinking about that until they are older and understand the concept of money. I just buy gifts that I like that I think they will enjoy.

Re: Christmas Spending with at least 2 DC
I do # of packages- with the exception being my 3 month old because she has no idea what's going on
I had the same problem with buying for #2 since we already have most things from DD1 and last Christmas with both of them. This year they're getting several "shared" gifts that will be made out to both of them.
DD2 is getting some less girly things- a train set, a remote control Umi Zoomi car- because we already have all the girly things (doll house, kitchen, doll accessories) from DD1.
Next year will be even harder when DD3 is old enough to get gifts (although, she still won't be old enough to really "get" it)
ETA: My girls are also really close in age. DD1 & 2 are 20 months apart and DD2 & 3 are 20 months apart
