Shipping overseas question
I have to ship a handbag sized box to Moscow. There's no particular rush as it's not a gift. (It's a long story lol.)
I mailed many letters there before email but never a package. My friend would get my Christmas cards in March so we gave up.
Anyone know the best/cheapest way to send this?

Shipping overseas question
Cheapest was is USPS 1st which can take about 4-6 weeks and can not be insured.
You will also need to fill out a customs forms.
If you have an idea of weight go to www.usps.com and you can calculate the weight and estimate transit time.

I wanted to add, 1st class is only upto 4 pounds and has a dimension limit.

Shipping overseas question
I would take the package to the post office and ask them. I shipped a box of baby clothes to Greece and it took about 10 days. I had to fill out a customs form as well. It was pretty heavy, don't remember exactly, but it cost about $40 to ship which was what I was expecting.

Are the taxes paid for it? Is it brand new? The recipient will have to pay tax on it, but if they know this then that's fine. This link is helpful:

Ugh, not being able to insure it is a problem.
It's not new but it's expensive. My friend is from Moscow and was in Chicago on business, where i met up with her. We took her 2 month old falling apart ferragamo bag to the chicago store to see if they could fix it. (The store in moscow told her they could not help her bc she bought it in Zurich.) Chicago fixed it for her but they won't ship it to Moscow - only to ny, so now it's sitting in my living room. It retails for over 2k so i have got to insure it.

They might charge tax on it. I'm not sure how it works in Russia. I do know when I have bought stuff here (Germany), I have seen a special thing For Russia. For example, I ordered shoes and they said that in Russia there are delays because of extra customs scrutiny.
We left my DH's wedding ring in the US one visit back. My mom mailed it but we insured the package, just in case. My package went straight to the customs center and we had to answer a few questions. Luckily, we didn't have to pay tax as it was a used good, and they saw that.
She could always bring her receipt, but considering she bought it in Zürich, I assume she would then have to pay the tax because Russia isn't in the EU. I'd ask your friend how it works in Russia. Also used goods here would be after 2 years.
That's a big purchase and I'd definitely insure it, but the tax would be a lot, too.
ETA: DH once bought me some nice earrings in Singapore and had them delivered here. We got away from the customs charge by writing jewellery repair. Maybe writing a bag repair will work?

Put in the customs form that it's a gift or a sample, otherwise the recipient will get charged.
