New Kitten questions
last Saturday we got an 8 week old female kitten we named Jingles. She is adorable. The first couple of days she was very playful but now she seems almost depressed. She is eating very minimal, she is drinking, not playful at all. We bought the food from the shelter along with the kitty litter so nothing there has changed. She loves being held and pet so we are doing that a lot. I think my DD is a little disappointed that the kitten seems to have no interest in doing anything at all anymore. Any suggestions? Do you think it could be separation anxiety from her shelter and care givers? I have had cats before and never had this come up. We are concerned that maybe she was not as healthy as we were told.

New Kitten questions
don't have real advice but I do hope this is just a bit of an adjustment period. Is she going to the bathroom regularly? maybe her tummy is bother her? my DH said that when our cats were babies they had trouble pooping and sometimes also the area got inflamed (sorry if TMI LOL) so he had to clean it very thoroughly and constantly check they did their business other than that I think just keep kissing and petting. when we rushed one of our cats last yr to the hospital after staying there for just one night he was a bit weird when he came home - was doing things he usually never does. so I cant imagine having to get used to a whole grp of new humans and space.

Re: New Kitten questions
IMO, if a pet isn't eating, he/she should go to the vet ASAP.

New Kitten questions
If the kitten is not really eating I would take her to the vet- a change is appetite and behavior could be a sign of illness.

Re: New Kitten questions
I am happy to report she had a great day yesterday. Ate well and was more playful. I had called our vet and the shelter where we got her and both said since she was eating some and drinking and doing her business in the litter it was probably an adjustment period. Yesterday she was more playful and seemed to have so much more energy. We are still keeping a watchful eye as both said if she did not snap out of it by Monday we should take her to the vet. Much more optimistic after yesterday. Thanks for your help

Re: New Kitten questions
I don't want to tell you my experience with my unplayful kitten because it didn't end well for me and your kitten is a bit young for what happened to me.
I can say keep an eye on it and definitely go to the vet and get blood work if necessary. The eating and drinking is a good sign, though.

Re: New Kitten questions
UPDATE : Jingles had a parasite and an upper respiatory infection. She stayed back at All About Cats for 4 nights, took meds (Still is ) and is doing great. She eats like a linebacker now, is so loving and playful and is just our shining star. She loved her Christmas presents and is keeping us all smiling and entertained. Thank you all for your suggestions, very much appreciated!!
